Alan Spicer of Cuffley Hall took part in the recent Short Mat Players Tour (SMPT) UK Open at Bromsgrove IBC.  The event is part of the SMPT's ranking tournament series and, as such, Alan now has a world ranking.

The UK Open had 144 entries including most of the top players in England and Europe.  Alan won 2 of his 7 games, reaching the last 16 of the Shield competition.  Given the quality of the opposition, Alan's performance was highly commendable.  He gained 9 ranking points which places him at number 508 in the world.

If 508th doesn't sound too impressive, please note that there are 6 ranking tournaments each year and the ranking points are accumulated over a rolling 2 year period so Alan has only just started on the road to a truly representative ranking.
