HOW TO BECOME AN UMPIRE

Any player who is registered to a club within Hertfordshire may become a registered ESMBA Umpire.

If you are interested in becoming an umpire, please contact Darren Stanford who is our Umpires co-ordinator and the ESMBA’s South Central Area Manager for Umpires. He will then pass on your contact detail to the ESMBA’s Umpires Director who will the send you the relevant paperwork.

If you are successful with the first part of your journey into umpiring, you will then be required to attend a workshop (normally at your club) where you will have the opportunity to practice and perform measuring exercises which you would be expected to do as an umpire, you will also be asked some questions to assess your understanding of the laws of the game. This is the time for you to ask any questions to the Umpires taking the workshop.

Roughly 2 weeks after attending the workshop you will take your practical and oral examinations; you must pass both sections to achieve umpire status. Your examiners will be experienced umpires from within the County.

We would like to have at least one qualified umpire in every club, so if your interested please contact us.
