Week 10

 

The Barnet League continues with all four games being played this week.

Division One

Shillington Black’s team of Brenda, Toni and Bill played Letchworth Tigers David M, Mick and Margaret. Black took the first end for a single; this was followed by a tied end. Tigers then took the next end for a single, making it one all after three ends. Black then started a small run of three singles to go 4 – 1 up after six ends. Tigers held end seven for a single but Black got into their stride, taking two doubles and a single to be 9 – 2 up after ten ends. Tigers then doubled their score taking end eleven for a double. Black took the following two ends for singles, regaining their seven shot lead at 11 – 4 with two ends to play. Tigers finished the game by taking the last two ends for singles however Blacks had the win at 11 – 6.

Greenwood Hawks team of Barry, Val and Brian M played Shillington White’s Paul, Michelle and Trevor. White got on the card first by taking a single. Hawks reply was to take a four followed by a double to be 6 – 1 up after three ends. White held end four for a double, to which hawks replied taking a single. White then took a single and a double to reduce Hawks lead to 7 – 6 after seven ends. Hawks then got started with a run of ends, taking a five followed by five singles and a double to go 19 – 6 up with one end to play. White came back on the last end taking a triple, giving Hawks a comfortable win at 19 – 9.

Division 2

St Margaret’s Wizards team of Vicki, Brian and Jeanette played Letchworth Lions Judith, Andy and Alan S. Wizards started well taking a triple on the first end. Lions reply was to take a double and a single, to make it evens at 3 all after three ends. Wizards then pulled in front taking a double. Lions replied by taking a triple to go back in the lead. Wizards then took a further double. Lions followed this with a single to make it evens again at 7 all after seven ends. Lions then held a double. Wizards came back for a single but Lions instantly replied, taking three further singles and pulled out a four shot lead after twelve ends. End thirteen saw Wizards take a four and it was all back level again at 12 all. Lions took the penultimate end for a single, only to see Wizards reply, taking the last end for a single and holding on to the draw at thirteen all, in this close match.

Letchworth Pumas team of Mike T, Andrew and Alan H played Shillington Red’s Tom, Carol and Neil. Pumas got the game started taking a triple, they followed this with a double and a single to go 6 – 0 up after three ends. Red then got going taking a single, a four, a triple and a double to take a four shot lead. Pumas stormed end eight by taking a hotshot six and regaining the lead at 12 – 10 after eight ends. Red came straight back to regain the lead, taking a triple followed by a double, to go 15 – 12 up. End eleven and Pumas took a triple and it was all square at 15 all. Red then took a double and a single to have a three shot lead with two ends to play. Pumas reduced the deficient taking end fourteen for a single. The last end also went Pumas way, they held on for a further single giving Red the win at 18 – 17.

 

The top of Division one remains unchanged. Greenwood Peckers and Northiam East remain at the top despite neither of them playing this week. Next week sees them both playing, could the order of the top three change? Watch this space. Division two sees Shillington Red maintain their unbeaten run even if it was by the narrowest of margins this week. With both Letchworth teams playing again next week the competition for second place will be on.
