Last week saw all games in the Barnet League being postponed due to the severe weather. All games have now been rearranged and the revised schedule is on this website. The Barnet League continued this week with three games being played.

Division One

Letchworth Tigers team of David M, Mick and David G played Greenwood Peckers Brian, Mark and Darren. Peckers started this match by taking a run of five ends. Taking four singles and a four they had an early 8 – 0 lead. Tigers came back on end six for a double only to see Peckers match it on end seven to retain their eight shot lead. Tigers then took a single and a triple to reduce Peckers lead to 10 – 6 after nine ends. Peckers now took control by taking a further five ends for a single, two fours, a double and a triple to go 24 – 6 up with one end to play. Tigers held the last end for a single but Peckers had the win at 24 – 7.

Division Two

St Margaret’s Wizards team of Lyn, Brian and Jeanette played Harpenden Eagles Valerie, Denise and Gordon. With the first two ends going for a single apiece it all looked fairly close. Eagles then took end three for a four and followed it with a single to be 6 – 1 up after four ends. Wizards replied taking a single on end five however with Eagles coming back for a double and a single they were 9 – 2 up after seven ends. Wizards increased their score taking end eight for a double. Eagles then started a short run taking two singles and a double they had pulled out a 13 – 4 lead after eleven ends. Wizards held end twelve for a single, only to see Eagles take the last three ends for a single, a double and finishing on a triple to take a good win at 19 – 5.

Bush Hill Blues team of Terri, Roger and Darren played Letchworth Lions Judith, Sue and Alan S. Blues started well taking a single and a double only to see Lions take end three for a triple and it was all square after three ends. Blues then reclaimed the lead taking a further single and a double. Lions replied taking a double this time to give Blues a one shot lead at 6 – 5 after six ends. Blues increased their lead by taking a four on end seven. Lions came straight back for a double only to see Blues extend their lead with a single. Lions then held end ten for a five and take the lead at 12 – 11. End eleven and Blues took their second four of the game to reclaim the lead at 15 – 12. End twelve was declared a tied end which was followed by Blues taking a single to increase their lead to 16 – 12 with two ends to play. The penultimate end was also declared a tied end. Going into the last end Blues saw Lions hold on for a triple, however Blues just had the win at 16 – 15.

Going into our Christmas break Division One remains unchanged from last week. Greenwood Peckers have increased their lead but Northiam East are close on their tails. Shillington Red still look very strong in Division Two but the rest of the table is wide open. Looking forward to more competitive games in the second half of our Barnet League season.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from our chief organiser Margaret Hare and your reporter.
