Barnet League week seven

Hello to all you Barnet League followers. Week seven and there was only one game in the first division with the usual two in the second.

Division 1

Shillington White played St Margaret’s Rarebits. Whites took the first three ends for two singles and a double to gain a small lead. Rarebits replied taking two singles but with Whites replying with a further double and a single they had a comfortable lead of 7 – 2 after seven ends. Rarebits now came back taking a four and reducing Whites lead to a single shot. Whites now fought back taking three singles and a triple to go 13 – 6 up with three ends to play. Rarebits now took a single they followed this with another four, so with one end to play White’s lead had been reduced to two. The last end saw the jack being befriended by various bowls with Rarebits last bowl landing closest to the jack to take the end for a single shot. With a reduced lead, Whites managed to retain the win at 13 – 12.

Division 2

Cuffley Tonic our current Division two leaders played Harpenden Blackbirds. Tonic started taking a single followed by a three. Blackbirds replied by taking a three and a two to go 5 – 4 up after four ends. Tonic now replied taking three consecutive doubles and a lead of 10 – 5 after seven ends. Blackbirds now got the worm between their teeth taking a single followed by a double and a triple and the lead at 11 – 10 after ten ends. Tonic now shook themselves up taking two singles and regaining the lead at 12 – 11. Blackbirds now flew back taking a single to level the match at 12 all after thirteen ends. Tonic then regained all their fizz taking the last two ends for three shots each and the win at 18 – 12 in a match that had been closer until the last two ends.

Harpenden Robins played Shillington Red. Robins got the early worm taking the first three ends for a single each. Reds came back taking a double however, not to be outdone Robins now took a triple and increased their lead to 6 – 2 after five ends. Reds now came back taking three singles on the bounce and reducing Robins lead to one shot. Robins put on the pressure taking another two singles and increasing their lead to 8 – 5 after ten ends. Reds responded taking two doubles followed by a single and for the first time in the match had the lead at 10 – 8. With Robins taking the last two ends of the match for a single each we got the first draw of the season at 10 shots all.

Cuffley Tonics fourth win in a row makes them the only team in either division that has not lost a match. Shillington Red with three wins and a draw are in a strong second place. With plenty of birds hovering below them who knows what will happen next week, and don’t forget those Wizards, something magical may happen. Watch this space.
