13 Feb 2024

Barnet League Week Sixteen.

Division one

Letchworth Pumas Mike, Alan S and Andrew played Shillington Black’s Paul, Michelle and Trevor. Pumas got started by taking a single on end one and followed this with two doubles before Black managed to get on the scorecard. Taking a single on end four they were now only four behind at 1 – 5 after four ends. With the following two ends going for a single apiece Pumas were maintaining their four shot lead. Black then narrowed the gap by taking a single on end seven. Pumas then went on the attack, taking a triple and following this with two singles they had an 11 – 3 lead after ten ends. Black regrouped and took a single on end eleven and followed this with a double. By taking a further two singles they had narrowed Pumas lead to three shots with one end to play. Black continued their run by taking the last end for a further single, however Pumas had the win at 11 – 9.

Division two

St Margaret’s Mars Lyn, Brian and Tony played Northiam West’s Margaret, Brian and Jeff. With the first end being declared a tied end Mars went on the attack taking a single followed by a four and a further single to be 6 – 0 up after four ends. West’s reply was to take a five followed by a single and they were all square at six all after six ends. Mars went on the attack again, taking a single followed by a triple they had regained the lead. Unfortunately this was the end of Mars campaign. West pulled back with a triple and then took the lead with a second triple. Following this with a single and their third triple of the game West had pulled out a lead of 16 – 10 after twelve ends. Following this with their second five of the game West had increased their lead to eleven shots. Taking the last two ends for singles West had a good win at 23 – 10.

Letchworth Tigers Sue, Judith and Margaret played St Margaret’s Mercury’s Stephen, Jeanette and Darren. Tigers started well taking a single followed by a double. At this point Mercury pushed and took a run of ends. Taking a single, two doubles, two triples and a four they had pulled out a 15 – 3 lead after just eight ends. Tigers got back in the game taking two singles and a double to increase their score to seven. The last four ends saw Stephen, Jeanette and Darren push again, taking a single, a double and two triples they had an impressive win at 24 – 7.

The Division One game had no effect on the league table although Shillington Black’s loss has confirmed the fact that Black will be relegated to division two at the end of the season. St Margaret’s Mercury’s win takes them to the top spot in Division two and brings their likelihood of promotion to the top Division one step closer. Northiam West’s win takes them one step closer to the top two, with a game in hand the fight for top spot just got a little tighter. Next week sees the Shillington teams play each other while our top spot Northiam East take on Greenwood Hawks who have slipped down into that relegation zone. Can East reinforce their top spot or will Hawks take the win to climb out of the danger zone.  With both St Margaret’s teams playing again next week watch this space for more news.
