Barnet League Cup Plate Competition

Shillington Black’s Trevor, Michelle and Julia played Letchworth Tigers Judith, Sue and Margaret on mat four in the second Semi Final of the plate competition.

Set 1:- Tigers got on the card first with a single, Black replied taking a double to which Tigers took a second single to level the set after three ends. Black then applied some pressure, taking a double followed by a triple and a third double they were 9 – 2 up after six ends. The last end of the first set saw Tigers hold on for a single, but Black had won set one at 9 – 3.

Set 2:- Tigers then started to take control, taking the first two ends for doubles. End three saw Black take a single. Tigers put on more pressure, taking three singles and finishing on a double. In a complete reversal of the first set they had a comprehensive win at 9 – 1 and with the match level the tie break began.

Tie Break:- Black were put in first and after all six bowls had been played they took the first end of this three end tie break. The second end saw a close head with one those small blue bowls from the Tigers sitting next to the jack with the last bowl to come from Black’s skip. Playing with a small amount of weight the last bowl of the second end pushed the bowl out of the way and took shot. Winning two ends Black had the win and go forward into the Plate Final.

Northiam East’s win takes them to the top of the First Division although second place Greenwood Peckers do have a game in hand. Shillington Red’s win moves them above Greenwood Hawks and out of the relegation zone. Harpenden Eagles strong win in Division two reinforces their fourth place. Shillington Black’s win in the plate means we now know the final will be between Northiam West and Shillington Black although the date for this Final is still to be arranged.
