Barnet League Week Twenty One.

Division one

Letchworth Pumas Jill, Andrew and Alan played our Division one leaders Greenwood Peckers Audrey, Brian and Mark. Peckers got straight into this game holding a three on the first end. Pumas replied for a double but with Peckers following this with a single on end three they had 4 – 2 lead. Pumas then took the lead back by taking a triple on end four. Their lead was short lived as Peckers replied by taking a double followed by a single. Pumas held end seven for a single but Peckers then started to show why they are Division one leaders, taking a triple followed by two fours and a single they surged ahead to a 19 – 6 lead after eleven ends. Pumas regrouped and took the following two ends for singles. Peckers came straight back, taking the final two ends for a triple and a double they had won the game at 24 – 8.

Division two

Northiam West’s Margaret, Brian and Jeff played Harpenden Eagles Val, Beryl and Trevor. West got off to a good start by taking a triple on the first end. Eagles started a short run of three singles to draw level after four ends. West went on the attack by taking a second triple and followed this with a four. Eagles replied by matching West’s four on end seven. End eight and West held a double for a 12 – 7 lead. Eagles came back in for two singles to reduce West’s lead to three shots. With the following two ends going for a double apiece, West were maintaining their three shot lead. West took end thirteen for their third triple of this game and followed it with a single. The last end saw Eagles hold a double but West had the win at 18 – 13.

St Margaret’s Mars Jim, Vicky and John played Letchworth Tigers Lisa, Bev and Margaret. As with the other two mats, a triple was scored on the first end of this game, giving Tigers the lead. Mars took the second end for a single but with Tigers reply of a single followed by a double they had a 6 – 1 lead after five ends. Mars came back for two singles but they were covered by Tigers taking end seven for a double to maintain their five shot lead. Mars reduced their deficit by taking a single on end eight. Tigers then started a run by taking the next five ends for singles for a 13 – 4 lead with two ends to play. The penultimate end saw Tigers increase their run by taking a double. The last end and Mars made an impression by holding a double but Tigers had the win at 15 – 6.

Well folks, we come to the end of another season of the Barnet League. We send congratulations to Greenwood Peckers whose win this week reinforces their top spot in division one. Congratulations also go to Northiam East in second place. The second division final positions have now been decided and we can confirm that Northiam West have retained their top spot in Division two. Letchworth Tigers win has moved them up the table to second spot, only behind Northiam West on shot difference. These two teams will be moving up to the First Division next year.

Next sees the finals of the Barnet League Cup and Plate competitions. We will have Northiam East playing Greenwood Hawks for the Cup and Shillington Black playing Northiam West for the Plate. Can Northiam take the double in this inaugural year of this exciting knockout competition. Why not come along and watch these two finals or come along for your last chance of a rollup before Easter. Hatfield will be closed and Margaret will be taking a well earned rest for two weeks over Easter. We will be returning 16th of April when our Summer Aussie pairs competition will start. Have you entered yet? Margaret now has registration forms ready for teams of two to four players in this free flow format competition. Why not come on Tuesday to watch the finals and signup for this summer competition. More details below.

Message from our League Secretary

We are planning to close for 2 weeks at Easter, 2nd and 9th April.

I will again be running an Aussie Pairs competition during the summer. This will start on 16th April and finish on 16th July. Teams can have up to 4 players, who do not need to be from the same club. There will be no fixture list as teams can turn up and play any time during the competition, but teams will need to complete 7 games during that time. This does mean you may play against the same team more than once. The top 2 teams will play a final on 16th July. This format worked very well last year. There will continue to be roll up mats available each week for those not playing in a game.

We will be closed for 6 weeks from 23rd July to 27th August.

Please let me know if you would like to enter a team in the Aussie Pairs. I will have registration forms with me on Tuesday evenings.

Regards

Margaret
