The Barnet Cup - The Finals.

This week at Hatfield saw the culmination of our Barnet Cup competition with the finals of the Main and the Plate being played.

The Plate.

The Plate Final was between Shillington Black and Northiam West. Black’s Bill, Toni and Julia won the toss for the first set and started play against West’s John, Margaret and Jeff. West started the first set well by holding a double on the first end. Black replied by taking a single and then took the lead with a triple. West pulled back with a single on end four which Black matched on end five. End six and West took a double to level the set at five all going into the last end. Taking the last end for a single Black had won the first set. The second set started with Black taking a single, they followed this with a second single followed by a four to take a 6 – 0 lead after three ends. West fought back to take end four for a single but Black had them on the run, taking a double on end five and following this with a single on the penultimate end they had an unassailable 9 – 1 lead. Playing the last end of the set West held a single but Black had won the second set 9 – 2.

Barnet Cup

The Barnet Cup Final was between Northiam East and Greenwood Peckers. Peckers team of Barry, Val and Darren started well, with a double, following this with a single and two further doubles they were pulling away from East’s Mike, Martin and Jan. Peckers increased the pressure by taking two further singles to be 9 – 0 up in the first set with one end to play. The seventh end saw East take their first end for a single, but Peckers had won the first set 9 – 1.  The second set started with Peckers taking the lead again by taking a single.  West pulled out all the stops and held a double on end two for the lead. Peckers nudged in front again, holding a double on end three they were back in front at 3 – 2. West dug in and regained the lead by taking a triple on end four. Peckers matched West’s triple to regain the lead at 6 – 5 with two ends to play. Peckers increased their lead with a single on end six. Taking a second single on the last end, Peckers had won the second set at 8 – 5.

So the Barnet Cup competition finishes its first season.  Congratulations go to Greenwood Peckers who have won the cup and to Shillington Black who have won the Plate. Congratulations also go to Northiam with both their teams finishing as runners up in this great competition, organised for us by Martin Nash.

Hatfield is now closed for our Easter break. We will be returning on the 16th of April when our Summer Aussie Pairs competition begins. Have you given your entry form to Margaret yet? No!!, why not?. This is a great competition with no pressure to turn up every week, so for those of you not entered yet I have repeated the entry information below.

 Message from our League Secretary

I will again be running an Aussie Pairs competition during the summer. This will start on 16th April and finish on 16th July. Teams can have up to 4 players, who do not need to be from the same club. There will be no fixture list as teams can turn up and play any time during the competition, but teams will need to complete 7 games during that time. This does mean you may play against the same team more than once. The top 2 teams will play a final on 16th July. This format worked very well last year. There will continue to be roll up mats available each week for those not playing in a game.

We will be closed for 6 weeks from 23rd July to 27th August.

Please let me know if you would like to enter a team in the Aussie Pairs. I will have registration forms with me on Tuesday evenings

🧿 Happy Easter to all our Bowlers and Readers from your Competition Organisers. 🧿
