Barnet League Week Six

Hello to all you Barnet League bowlers and followers. Week six and the tables have changed yet again.

Division 1

Cuffley Gin played Shillington Black. Blacks got the bowls rolling by taking a single on the first end. Gin replied taking a single to even the score. The following two ends went for two shots apiece. Gin then took a further double and Black took two singles, so after seven ends the scores were level again at five shots all. Ends eight and nine went Blacks way giving them the lead at 8 – 5. Gin now took two doubles on the bounce to go one shot up. End twelve went Blacks way for a single and the scores were back level at nine all. Blacks then took a double with Gin replying by taking a single on the penultimate end. Being one shot down, Gin now took a triple on the last end, winning this closely fought match 13 – 11.

Greenwood Peckers played Northiam East. The first two ends saw both teams scoring a single, with the following two ends seeing both teams take a double. East then took ends five and six for a single each, with end seven going Peckers way for a single. The score was now 5 – 4 to East. East then took a step forward by taking a five. They immediately followed this with a three. Peckers now got in taking a single. However, East replied taking two further doubles to go 17 – 5 up with three ends to play. Peckers then took a single. With the last two ends going for a triple each, East had a good win of 20 – 9.

Shillington Black retain their first place despite losing this week. Northiam East’s good win sees them climb up the table to second place.

Division 2

Shillington Red played Greenwood Eagles. Reds started well taking the first six ends for seven shots. End seven and Eagles got their claws out for a triple. Reds replied taking two more singles. End ten saw Eagles strike again taking a two reducing Reds lead to 9 – 5. Reds then took a double, followed by Eagles taking a triple to reduce Reds lead to three shots. Ends thirteen and fourteen went for a single each. Going into the last end with a lead of three Reds took their first three of the match to give them their third win in a row with a score of 15 – 9.

Greenwood Hawks played St Margaret’s Wizards. The first four ends saw both teams taking two singles each. Ends five and six saw Hawks take a further two singles. Ends seven and eight now went for two shots each giving Hawks the lead of 6 – 4. Hawks then increased their lead taking end nine for a double. Wizards conjured up a single and a double, to narrow Hawks lead to one shot after eleven ends. Hawks now swooped in taking a double and a single to regain their four shot lead. The penultimate end saw wizards pull a single out of the hat. However, the last end saw Hawks take a triple and the win at 14 – 8.

With Shillington Red reinforcing their second place, Greenwood Hawks win sees them move into third place with a game in hand over Shillington Red.
