Barnet League week Five

Hello to all you Barnet League bowlers and followers. Week five and both divisions have seen significant changes

Division 1

Shillington White played Letchworth Tigers. Tigers got off to a good start taking the first two ends for a single each. White then levelled the score by taking a double. With Tigers coming straight back taking a further single and double after five ends Tigers had the lead at 5 – 2. Whites now took a three to level the match. Tigers got their claws out taking the next three ends and had the lead at 9 – 5. Whites now took two singles to reduce Tigers lead. Tigers now replied with a single to go 10 – 7 up with three ends to play. Whites now fought back taking a double and a single to level the match at 10 all after fourteen ends. The last end was hard fought with Whites holding two shots with one bowl to come. Tigers skip then delivered a perfect bowl and took the end for Tigers for two shots. Tigers winning 12 – 10.

St Margaret’s Rarebits played Cuffley Gin. Gin started with a double, Rarebits replied with their own double. Gin came back for a single to go 3 – 2 up after three ends. Rarebits now dominated the match for the next seven ends taking three singles, two doubles and two triples. After ten ends Rarebits had a commanding lead of 15 – 3. Gin now took a double and a single, however Rarebits replied taking a double and a single of their own. The last end went Gin’s way for a single but all the damaged had been done in those middle seven ends and Rarebits comfortably won 18 – 7.

Letchworth Tigers win sees them rise up the table to second place. With Greenwood Peckers and Shillington White holding joint third place, although the Peckers have a game in hand.

Division 2

Cuffley Tonic played Harpenden Robins.  Tonic started strongly with a five. They followed this with three singles, two doubles, two triples and a six. So by end nine Tonic had a dominating lead of 24 – 0. Robins now flapped their wings and got off the ground with a double but Tonic then came straight back with a double. Robins, having tasted the worm and a bit of success now took a triple and three singles to finish the match with a flurry of activity. Tonic having a strong win of 26 – 8

Harpenden Blackbirds played Shillington Red. Reds started well taking the first five ends for a single, three doubles and a five to go 12 – 0 up. Although Blackbirds then took a three, Reds then took a further five ends to go 21 – 4 up after eleven ends. Blackbirds took one more single but the last three ends all went Reds way to give them another resounding win of 24 – 4.

Shillington Red getting another good win means they have leapt up the table to second place.
