London 19 Herts 21

20 Nov 2016

Hertfordshire started and finished strongly to register a win over London in their latest Inter County Championship Qualifying Group match.

In the first session, both pairs (Audrey Fowler/Sam Salmon and Tony Gayler/Jeanette Gayler) won and Alan Hare took both points from his singles game.

After such a good start, session 2 was a bit of a letdown as the triple of Jill Oakes, Mary Chadd and Brian McGivern were the only combination to take a point from their drawn game.

The afternoon saw the Gaylers win again and Michael West took two points from his singles.  The pairs' aggregate scores from both of their sessions brought two bonus points for Herts.

Hertfordshire needed a positive result from the final triples and fours session and the players didn't disappoint.  The triple of Cherry and Ted Nolan with Alan Spicer won their game 13-11.  Both fours were successful.  Pauline Taylor, Brian Fowler, Peter Griffiths and Darren Stanford won 13-8 while Rebecca Nightingale, Margaret Hare, John Taylor and Bill Gearing took their points 12-7.  The two fours results turned around the deficit from the morning and grabbed two vital bonus points to confirm the overall victory.

This win keeps Hertfordshire at the top of the group with Buckinghamshire having played a game less.  Next week Herts play their final qualifying match in the return fixture against London at Elm Court.
