The Hertfordshire 4 Pairs team of Jeff Branch and Sam Salmon did better than expected in the National Over-55s Pairs Championship held at Daventry IBC yesterday. Winning two of their three Group matches they managed to get through to the knock-out stages of the main competition where they beat Cornwall 10 - 8 in the first round to reach the the last 16. However,  West Sussex 1 proved too strong in the next round and took a 9 - 1 lead, although Jeff and Sam managed to fight back in the latter stages of the game, they finally lost by 11 shots to 6.

Three other Hertfordshire Pairs (Audrey & Brian Fowler, Tony & Jeanette Gayler and Cherry & Ted Nolan) also took part. Each team won one of their Group games and then went into the Plate competition. Unfortunately all three pairs were drawn against strong opposition and didn't progress any further than the first  stage. Nevertheless, the Hertfordshire teams put up a good show all round.
