Barnet League - Week 20

This week there were three 1st and three 2nd division matches in the Barnet League.  

Division 1

Greenwood Peckers played Northiam East. Peckers started slowly only taking one end of the first five. They won end six for a single but then East took the next two. At end eight East were 9 – 2 in the lead. Peckers took end nine for two shots but East replied with a three. The next four ends were evenly matched, East took the last end for a single shot to win 16 – 7.

Cuffley Gin played St Margaret’s Rarebits. Gin started well taking the first six ends to go 10 – 0 up. Rarebits took end seven for a two however Gin came straight back taking the next three ends. At end ten Gin had a commanding lead of 15 – 2. Rarebits then took the next two ends for singles. Gin then dominated the last three ends taking two two’s and a four. Gin won with an impressive score of 23 – 4.

Cuffley Tonic played Letchworth Lions. Tonic started by taking the first two ends for singles. Lions replied taking the next three ends to draw in front 4 – 2. Tonic came back taking the next three ends to restore their lead of two on end eight. End nine saw Lions take a three to go back into the lead. Tonic took two singles then Lions took a two to regain their lead of one. On end thirteen Tonic took a five followed by a three. Although Lions took a two on the last end the damage had been done. Tonic winning 16 – 11.

Division 2.

Greenwood Hawks played Harpenden Nightjars. The first two ends were shared at one shot each. Hawks then took end three for two. However, Nightjars replied taking the next three ends for singles. Taking end seven for a single Hawks pulled the game back level at four all. Hawks then took two singles to which Nightjars replied taking a two, and again at end ten the scores were level at six all. Hawks then took a three followed by a single and a further three. Nightjars replied taking the last two ends for singles. Hawks won with the final score 13 – 8.

Shillington White played Shillington Black. Black started well taking the first two ends for singles. White replied, taking the third and fourth ends again for singles. With two bowls resting on the jack end five was declared a dead end, the match also being drawn at four apiece. Black then took the lead by taking a three, to which White replied taking two singles and a two to go 6 – 5 up on end nine. On the next end Black took control to take a four. On end eleven White replied taking a two to come within one shot of Black. At this point White’s game stalled and Black took the last four ends to win 16 – 8.

Shillington Red played Harpenden Owls. Harpenden started strongly with a single followed by a five. Red then took a two but Owls came straight back to take another five and take a lead of 11 – 2 after four ends. Reds took the next two ends however Owls took the following three ends and at end nine the score was 17 – 5 to the Owls. The next five ends were much more evenly matched with three shots apiece. The Owls on end fourteen had an unbeatable lead of 20 – 8. Reds dug in and took the last end for four shots to narrow the score. Owls winning 20 – 12.

For the remaining weeks of the league, 17th March to 07th April there will only be one mat available for roll ups.

From the 14th April onwards, all mats will be available as the league will be finished.
