Barnet League, The Penultimate Week.

23 Sep 2021

Hello to all you Barnet League bowlers, this week was the penultimate week of our 2019/2020 or is that 2019/2020/2021 league. Two games were played in the first division, one game played and one game conceded in the second.

Letchworth Dragons played Letchworth Lions. Lions got of to a good start taking the first two ends to go 4-0 up. Dragons came back taking the following two ends to draw level. They continued this winning streak to take the next six ends giving them a 14-4 lead. For the remaining five ends the two Letchworth teams were evenly matched taking 4 shots each. So the final score saw Dragons winning 18-8.

Cuffley Gin played Northiam East. Gin started by taking a two, East came straight back to take a single but Gin just started to pull away. East only took a total of four ends in a match where Gin showed why they are now this season’s winners. The final score being 25-5.

Although there is one match left to be played in the First division, the top positions are now finalised with Cuffley Gin taking the top spot and Greenwood Peckers coming second.

Congratulations to all involved.

Letchworth Tigers played St Margaret’s Wizards. Tigers took the first end for a single, Wizards won the next end for a single to level the score. In the following seven ends Wizards took a three and a two but Tigers took five singles so after nine ends the score was level at six all. At this point Tigers took the following two ends for five shots and pulled out a lead. Wizards took two singles and started to creep back but Tigers jumped in with a two. Although Wizards took the last end for a single Tigers won the match 13-9.

For reasons unknown to the match reporter, Greenwood Hawks were unable to field a team this week so the game was awarded to Shillington Black 15-0.

The top of the second division is completely open. With Letchworth Tigers winning their game and Shillington Black being awarded theirs, it could not be any tighter. Next week these top two teams play each other. Whoever wins will take the title. However, last time they played it was a draw, If they draw again then Shillington White could sneak in and take the title. The point is that it is impossible to call.

Watch this space next week for the final results and positions. It is rumoured that players from each of these three teams are travelling to ‘Potters’ this weekend for specialist training. Some of which may include bowling.
