Barnet League continues with week two

26 Oct 2021

Hello to all you Barnet League bowlers and followers, This second week again saw two matches in each division.

Division 1

Shillington White played Cuffley Gin. Shillington White, who came into the first division due to a slight alteration in team numbers were playing last year’s winners. Gin took the first end for a single but first division newbie’s came straight back and took the lead with a four. The following four ends all went Gin’s way and after six ends they had a lead of 7 – 4. White then made a small comeback taking the next two ends to level the score at 7 all after eight ends. Gin then regained the lead with a two, however White’s replied with a four and a three to go 14 – 9 up after eleven ends. The last four ends saw Gin taking two singles and Whites taking a single and the last end for a double. Final score 17 – 11 to Whites.

Greenwood Peckers played St Margaret’s Rarebits. Rarebits took the first end for a single, Peckers replied taking the second end for a single to level the score. Rarebits then took a three and a single to go 5 – 1 up. Peckers replied taking a double and a four to now take the lead at 7 – 5 after six ends. Rarebits then took two singles and a double to regain the lead at 9 – 7 after nine ends. Ends ten and eleven went for a single each so after eleven ends, Rarebits had the lead at 10 – 8. The last four ends all went Peckers way with two singles and two doubles giving them the win at 14 – 10.

With two of the three new entries at the top of the table it has been an interesting start to the season.

Division 2.

Cuffley Tonic played Shillington Red. Tonic started strongly taking the first end for five. They followed this with two singles and a three to go 10 – 0 up after four ends. End five went Red’s way taking a single. Tonic replied taking a four, Reds came back taking a single and a two, so after eight ends Tonic had a good lead of 14 – 4. After this Reds only managed to take one more end for a single. Tonic took four singles, a three and to confirm their dominance took the last end for a four to take a strong win of 25 – 5.

Greenwood Hawks played Harpenden Blackbirds. The second division battle of the birds continued with first strike by the Hawks taking end one for a double. Blackbirds then soared in with a double of their own followed by a single and a further double to go 5 – 2 up after four ends. Hawks managed to take end five for a single but Blackbirds swooped in taking the next three ends for a single each to increase their lead to 8 – 3 after eight ends. Now the Hawks lost height and Blackbirds soared taking two singles a double and a four to regain the lead at 11 – 8 after twelve ends. In a complete reversal Blackbirds took the last three ends for a single and two doubles giving them the win at 13 – 11.

Blackbirds have now flown to the top of Division two with two wins, however being the only team to have played two they need to keep an eye out below.
