Barnet League Week Six

The Barnet League continues with four games being played this week.

Division One

Shillington Whites team of Paul, Julia and Trevor played their club mates, the Shillington Black team of Jen, Toni and Bill. In their previous two meetings in the Barnet league last year, Blacks won both by one shot. Could Whites get a win this time? White started well, taking the first end for a triple they then held the second end for a four. Blacks took a single on end three, with Whites taking a single and another four they were 12 – 1 up after five ends. End six saw Black take a single but with White taking ends eight and nine for singles they had a 14 – 2 lead after eight ends. Black now started a comeback. Taking a triple followed by a glorious five they had reduced Whites lead to four shots in just two ends. With the following two ends going for a single apiece, White had the lead at 15 – 11 with three ends to play. Whites took the following two ends for a double and a single giving them a seven shot lead with only one end to play. Blacks held the last end for three shots but Whites had the win at 18 – 14. With their next clash on the 10th January watch this space to see how this ‘Shillington’ competition proceeds.

Greenwood Hawks team of Barry, Val and Dennis played Northiam East’s Mike, Margaret and Martin. East started by taking a four, Hawks came straight back taking their own four and followed this with two singles. Easts reply was to take two singles of their own and it was six all after six ends. Hawks came back taking a double to which Easts reply was to take a single giving Hawks a one shot lead. Hawks then applied some pressure taking a run of five ends, taking two singles, a double and two triples they had established a good lead of 18 – 7 with two ends to play. East started a comeback taking the penultimate end for four shots. With Hawks holding the last end for a single they had a good win at 19 – 11.

Division two

Letchworth Pumas team of Andrew, Alan Hare and Alexis played Harpenden Eagles Brian, Denise and Beryl. Eagles got this game started with a double. Pumas replied taking two doubles to take a two shot lead. End four and Eagles came back holding a four giving them the lead at 6 – 4 after four ends. Pumas then evened the game taking a double and then went in the lead taking end six for a single. Eagles took the following two ends for singles and regained the lead at 8 – 7 after eight ends. Pumas reply was to start a short run taking two doubles and a single giving them a 12 – 8 lead after eleven ends. Eagles came back taking a single followed by a three, with two ends to play it was all square again at twelve all. The last two ends went Pumas way, winning them both with doubles they had held on for the win at 16 – 12.

Bush Hill Blues team of Jack, Roger and Darren played Shillington Reds team of Derek, Carol and Neil. Reds took the first end for a single, they followed this with a hotshot six to go 7 – 0 up. Blues then replied taking a triple and a double to reduce Reds lead to 7 – 5 after four ends. Reds came back and increased their lead with a triple. Blues took a single but with Reds taking another double they had a 12 – 6 lead after seven ends. Blues started a comeback, taking a single followed by a triple and a double they had levelled the game at 12 all after ten ends. Reds reply was to take a single followed by a double and a 15 – 12 lead. Blues then took end thirteen for a single. The last two ends went Reds way, taking a double and finishing with a single they had the win at 18 – 13.

 

Week six sees Hawks come up the first division table. At this stage it is all very close with the mid four teams only separated by shot difference. Reds now top the second division with a game in hand over the three teams below them. Watch out for next weeks instalment of this Barnet League drama.
