Week seven of the Barnet League.
Division one
Shillington Black’s Paul, Michelle and Trevor played Shillington Red’s Clive, Derek and Neil. Reds held the first end for a single. Black drew level on end two with a single of their own. Red then held a double on end three. Black came back with a further single on end four and they were only one shot behind at 2 – 3. Black then took a triple on end five followed by a single after a very close measure. In what felt like a close game with many ends requiring a measure Reds took the remaining nine ends and the win at 23 – 2.
Northiam East’s Mike, Martin and Jan played Greenwood Hawks Val, Barry and Darren. Hawks took the first end for a triple, East held a single but with Hawks coming back for a double they were 5 – 1 up after three ends. East held end four for a single only to see Hawks take a triple and two singles to go 10 – 2 up after seven ends. East improved their position by taking a four on end eight, Hawks reply was to take a triple. East then applied more pressure taking two singles and a double reducing Hawks lead to 13 – 10. Hawks increased their lead by one shot on end thirteen. East halved their deficit by taking a double on the penultimate end. East then scored a single on the last end giving Hawks the narrow win at 14 – 13.
Division Two
St Margaret’s Mercury’s Terri, Roger and Darren played Harpenden Eagles Val, Beryl and Gordon. Mercury started well by taking three doubles in succession. Eagles then got started by taking two singles. Mercury then started a run, taking two doubles and three singles they had a 13 – 2 lead after ten ends. With the following two ends going for a single apiece Mercury were maintaining their eleven shot lead. End thirteen and Eagles held a double, they then followed this with a single. The last end went Mercury’s way by holding a triple and maintaining their eleven shot lead they had the win at 17 – 6.
Next week sees Hatfield hold the second round of our Barnet Cup competition. The Barnet League will return on the 05th of December when Shillington Red take on Greenwood Peckers, following their rise this week to second place another win would see Shillington Red on top spot. With Letchworth Tigers playing we could also have a new leader in Division two. Watch this space for the cup results and the continuation of the Barnet League the following week.
