Barnet Cup second round

Tuesday the 28th November saw the second round of the Barnet Cup competition held at Hatfield.

Mat two had Greenwood Hawks Barry, Val and Darren Brown play St Margaret’s Mars Derek, Brian and Tony. In the first set Hawks started with a single. Mars fought back, taking a double followed by a triple and a single they had a 6 – 1 lead with three ends to play. Hawks then started a comeback, they started with a single and followed it with two triples to win the first set 8 – 6. The second set started with Hawks continuing their run by taking a double. Mars came back for a single only to see Hawks increase their lead with a four. Mars came back for a second single. With the following two ends going for a single apiece, Hawks were going into the last end with a four shot lead. Hawks finished of with a triple to win the second set. Winning both sets Hawks are now through to the semi-finals.

Mat three had Letchworth Tigers Judith, David M and Margaret play Greenwood Peckers Audrey, Brian and Mark. Tigers started with a single. Peckers then held a double followed by a triple. Tigers came back on end four for a further single. Peckers then got stuck in and took the last three ends of the first set for five each for a whopping set one win of 20 – 2. Set two started with peckers holding two singles. Tigers then got running taking the rest of the ends. Taking two singles, two doubles and a triple they had won the second set to force a tie break. In the tie break although Tigers won one end, Peckers won the other two and move on to the semi-finals along with their club mates.

Mat four had Northiam East’s Martin, Rosa and Jan play St Margaret’s Mercury’s Jeanette, Roger and Terri. Mercury started the first set by taking a double. East then took two singles to make it level after three ends. Mercury then took the lead with a single. East’s reply was to hold a five on end five for a 7 – 3 lead. Mercury came back for a double but taking a single on the last end East had won the first set 8 – 5. The second set started with Mercury taking a single, East matched this but Mercury pulled into the lead taking a double on end three. East then regained the lead with a triple on end four. The last three ends all went Mercury’s way for singles. With Mercury winning 6 – 4 we had another tie break on our hands. Winning the tie break by 2 – 1 our third semi-finalists are Northiam East.

Mat five had Harpenden Eagles Pauline, Denise and Trevor play Cuffley Gin’s Ann, Jen and Paul. The first set started with Eagles taking a single. Gin came back for a double and the lead. Eagles then took a double but with Gin taking a single it was all square at three all after four ends. Eagles now stepped up by taking two triples. The last end saw Gin hold a single but Eagles had won the first set at 9 – 4. In a repeat of the first set, the first end of the second set started with Eagles holding a single. This time Gin held the second end for a single, Eagles then came back for a triple. Gin replied with a double followed by a single and it was four all after five ends. The penultimate end saw Gin take the lead with a single. Eagles won the last end with a triple giving them the win at 7 – 5 and making them the last of our four Semi-finalists.
