Barnet League Week Nineteen

Division one

Letchworth Pumas Andrew, Alan S and Alan H played Northiam East’s Mike E, Martin and Jan. Pumas started this game with a single which East matched on end two. Pumas then took a single and pulled out a short lead by taking a triple on end four. East came straight back in for a double then levelled the score by taking a second double. Following this with a single they were in front with a score of 6 – 5 after seven ends. Pumas pulled in front with a triple only to see East hold a double and it was all square again at eight all after nine ends. Pumas then took two singles to go back ahead in this game of alternate fortunes. End twelve and East held a double and yes you’ve worked it out, level again at 10 all with three ends to play. East increased the pressure to take a further double, following this with two singles they had the win at 14 – 10 in this closely fought game.

Greenwood Peckers Audrey, Brian and Mark played Shillington Black’s Paul, Michelle and Trevor. Peckers started well with a triple and Black instantly replied taking a single on end two. End three saw Peckers hold a tremendous five for an 8 – 1 lead after only three ends. Peckers continued their run taking a double and three singles to increase their lead to 13 – 1. The following two ends went for a single apiece, this was followed by a double for each team with Peckers maintaining their twelve shot lead. Peckers held end twelve for a triple. Black then held a double but the writing was on the carpet. With Peckers holding the last two ends for a single and a final double they had a comprehensive win at 22 – 6.

Division two

Northiam West’s Margaret, Brian and Jeff played Cuffley Gin’s Paul, Jen and Ann. West started by taking a single and a double. Gin held end three for a single giving West a 3 – 1 lead after three ends. West then dominated the next ten ends, taking four singles, two triples, three fours and a hotshot six they had pulled out a lead of 31 – 1 with two ends to play. Gin turned it around to take the final two ends in this difficult game for singles, however West had the win at 31 – 3.

As we come towards the end of the season the Division one final positions now look to be confirmed. With only two games left to be played our Winners of Division One will be Greenwood Peckers. Northiam East look fairly safe in second spot although with two substantial wins Pumas could climb above them. Next week’s game between Pumas and Hawks will sort this out, it could finalise the position or lead to an interesting last game of the season when Pumas will face top spot Greenwood Peckers. In contrast, with four games left to play the top spot in division two is wide open with half the teams in the division still in the running for the top spot. With two games next week the final positions could still be in contention. Watch this space for the exciting results next week.
