This week there were only three games scheduled. Unfortunately Potters Bar were unable to fill a team this week so there are only two games to report on. We did have one roll up mat in use but it did seem unusually quiet in the Hall. With the rain falling heavily outside we still ended up with a few buckets in the hall. We may have a nice new shinny floor but it’s a shame they haven’t repaired the roof yet.
Mat one had Fairfield Falcons team of Gordon, Neil and Bev playing Harpenden Eagles team of Sue, Denise and Brian. Falcons started by taking the first end for a single. Eagles replied by taking a single of their own, gaining height they took a second single followed by a double and were 4 – 1 up after four ends. Falcons now increased in speed to take the lead by holding a four, they followed this with a second four and were up 9 – 4. Eagles then got the upper wing and took a single, following this with a triple they had narrowed Falcons lead to 9 – 8. Falcons flew in for a single but by taking a double on end ten Eagles had drawn level at ten all. Falcons increased in height and speed, they took a double followed by a triple. They followed this with a magnificent hotshot six and continued applying the pressure with a four on the penultimate end for a 25 – 10 lead. Eagles attacked the last end and held it for a single. However Falcons had the win at 25 – 11.
Mat three saw Letchworth Lions Alan S, Andrew and Margaret play Shillington Black’s Tony, Paul and Julia. Black got on the scorecard first by taking a single. Lions matched this with a single and took the lead with a double. Blacks held end four for a double and it was all square at three all. Black pressed on with the attack by taking a single followed by a triple for a 7 – 3 lead after six ends. Lions pushed on end seven and held their second single of the game. Blacks pushed on, they took a four and following this with a double they had a 13 – 4 lead with six ends to play. Lions then growled a bit and held end ten for a single, feeling refreshed they roared, went for the measure and held a four. Pushing on their advantage they took two consecutive doubles and had now drawn level at 13 all with two ends to play. End fourteen saw Lions hold their fourth double of the game to take the lead at 15 – 13 with one end to play. The last end was hard fought, Blacks held on to take it for a single but Lions had the win at 15 – 14.
Falcons win with an impressive shot difference lifts them into third spot. Shillington Black have slipped one place to fourth but remain above Letchworth Lions. We now only have two teams yet to lose a game. With both of them playing next week can they continue their unbeaten run? With four games next week there is bound to be more changes in the table.
