Barnet League Week Twenty One

18 Feb 2025

Well its week twenty-one of our Barnet League, after this week we have only five more weeks to go before our League Winning team will be crowned. This week we had four games at The Hive. Read on to see how they went.

Mat one had our league leaders Greenwood Peckers Audrey, Brian and Mark playing St Margaret’s Mercury’s Lyn, Roger and Darren. Peckers showed why they top our league by starting with two doubles and following this with two fours to be 12 – 0 up after just four ends. Mercury got on top of end five and took a single. Peckers matched this on end six. Mercury rose again by taking a double and a second single to reduce Peckers lead to 13 – 4 after eight ends. Peckers came back for a second single on end nine but again Mercury held a double followed by a single and Peckers lead was reducer again to 14 – 7 after eleven ends. Peckers upped the stakes and held their third double and this time followed it with a single. Mercury came back on the penultimate end and held their third double of the game. The last end went Peckers way for a single and the win at 18 – 9.

Mat two and Shillington Black’s Bill, Paul and Julia were playing Peckers stablemates Greenwood Hawks Barry, Val and Darren ( no not the one on mat one ). Hawks started well with a double and followed this with two fours for a 10 – 0 lead after three ends. Blacks had a quick team reshuffle. End four went Black’s way for a single, they followed this with a second single and a triple and had halved Hawks lead to 10 – 5 after six ends. Hawks swooped in for a single but Blacks matched this and followed it with a double to reduce Hawks lead to11 – 8 after nine ends.  Hawks went on the attack by taking a four and followed this with a double to increase their lead to 17 – 8 after eleven ends. End twelve resulted in our umpire Darren, ( yes the one from mat one this time ) coming over to measure and he declared it a tied end. Blacks held a single the following end to reduce Hawks lead to 17 – 9 with two ends to play. Hawks held a double on end fourteen which Blacks matched on the final end but Hawks had another win at 19 – 11.

Mat three had Harpenden Eagles Barbara, Deidre and Brian  playing Letchworth Lions Lisa, Andrew and Alan Hare. Lions started by taking two singles, Eagles matched this with two singles on ends three and four and it was two all. Lions followed this by taking their third single on end five however they followed this with a five for a 8 – 2 lead after six ends. Eagles doubled their score by taking two shots on end seven. Lions matched this and took a further single for an 11 – 4 lead after nine ends. Eagles hit back, taking a triple followed by a double they had reduced Lions lead to two shots. Lions pulled in front with a double but Eagles instantly held a double of their own and Lions lead was only 13 – 11 with two ends to play. Lions attacked, they held a four and followed this with a single on the last end to take the win at 18 – 11.

Mat four and Shillington Red’s Derek, Michelle and Trevor were playing St Margaret’s Mars Tony, Jim and Derek ( not Red’s Derek, do keep up ). Reds took the first end for a triple then the second end was declared a tied end. Reds continued their run by taking two singles and a double for a 7 – 0 lead after five ends. Mars started a comeback by taking the next three ends for singles. Reds attacked again, taking a single on end nine for an 8 – 3 lead. Mars attacked again and took a second run of three singles, they followed this with a double and it was eight all after thirteen ends. Mars continued their run by taking the lead with a seventh single and finished the game with a double to take the win at 11 – 8.

Well week twenty-one came to an end with our three top teams all taking a win. Our league table order remains unchanged after this weeks four games. See you all next week when we have another four games, lets see if they can change our table.
