It’s week fourteen and this Tuesday saw three more games played at Hatfield in our Barnet League. It should have been four games but Harpenden Owls could not field a team this week and conceded their game to Greenwood Hawks with the standard score of 15 – 0. Read on to see how our three games went and how that affects our table.
Mat two and Letchworth Lions Mick, Alan S and Margaret were playing Greenwood Peckers Audrey, Brian and Mark. Lions roared and started this game with a four. Peckers hit straight back by taking a four of their own. Lions went back on the attack and took a double followed by a single for a 7 – 4 lead after four ends. Peckers stopped pecking and levelled the game with a triple, they followed this with two more and a single to give them a lead of 13 – 7 at the half-way stage. Lions came back and reduced Peckers lead with two singles. Peckers held a single but Lions took a double to reduce Peckers lead to 15 – 11 with three ends to play. The last three ends all went Peckers way, taking a fourth triple and two more singles they had the win at 20 – 11.
Mat three had Shillington Red’s Tom, Michelle and Neil R. playing Fairfield Falcons Gill H, Gill A and Neil S. Reds took the first end for a double and followed this with a single. They continued their run by taking a four, a double and two singles for a 11 – 0 lead after six ends. Falcons gained height and took a single on end seven. Reds went back on the attack, taking two more doubles and a single they had increased their lead to 16 – 1 after ten ends. Falcons swooped in for a second single on end eleven but Reds matched this and followed on with a triple to increase their score to 20 – 2. Falcons swooped in again on the penultimate end for a double but Reds held the final end for a double of their own to take the win at 22 – 4.
Mat four had Shillington Black’s Paul, Tony and Julia playing Northiam East’s Mike E, Jan and Martin. East started this game with a double. Black took the second end for a single then took the lead with a double. End four and East came back for a single and it was level at three all. Black’s then regained the lead with a double and followed that with a single. East found some direction and took a four for the lead at 7 – 6 after seven ends. Black took the lead back with a double the following end. East pushed for a single to level the game again at eight all after nine ends. Blacks now started a short run; they took a single and then held three doubles for a 15 – 8 lead with two ends to play. End fourteen saw East hold a double to reduce Blacks lead to five shots with just that last end to play. The last end saw East all around the jack and Black failed to get a bowl in the head resulting in East holding a spectacular five to level the game at fifteen all.
Another four results added to our table sees Lions and Falcons fall in our table. Peckers climb one place and still have a game in hand. The two Shillington teams have swapped places; Red’s win moves them to sixth above Blacks and in the top half of the table. Next week both Shillington teams are playing again, with only one point between them can Reds stay on top? Letchworth Lions and Northiam East are level on points and shot difference, with East having a rest next week will Lions go back above them?
See you all next week
