Tuesday saw the second round of our Barnet League being played at Hatfield. Unfortunately the game between Greenwood Peckers and St Margaret’s Mercury had to be postponed. Read on to see how the three remaining games went.
On mat one we had Letchworth Lions Mick, Margaret and Alan H playing Shillington Red’s Trevor, Michelle and Neil. Both these teams played last week and missed out the win. Let’s see how they got on. Red attacked the mat and held the first end for a double and followed on with a single. Lions went on the prowl and held a double, they followed that with a single to draw level and then took a second single for the lead. Reds came straight back on end six and levelled with a single and then regained the lead with another single on end seven. Lions roared and took the lead back with a double to which Reds replied for a single and it was all level again at six all after nine ends. Lions went on the prowl again, they took the lead with another single and followed that with three more. Taking a double on the penultimate end Lions had surged ahead with a 12 – 6 lead. Reds reduced their deficit by holding the final end for a triple but Lions had taken their first game of the season with a score of 12 – 9.
Mat three and Potters Bar Kestrels Keith, Frank and Dave were playing Northiam East’s Mike, Jan and Martin. |East started with a triple and followed that with a double. Kestrels rose and broke their duck with a single. East matched this single on end four. With end five being declared a drawn end East had a 6 – 1 lead. East then reinforced their position with a second triple. Kestrels doubled their score with a single on the seventh end. East matched Kestrels single and followed that with a triple to go 13 – 2 up after nine ends. Kestrels then held their first triple of the game and followed that with a second triple to reduce East’s lead to 13 – 8 after eleven ends. East came back for another triple on end twelve but Kestrels held a double to be 10 – 16 down with two ends to play. East upped the pressure and held a triple on end fourteen. They then finished the game with a hotshot six making the final score 25 – 10.
Mat four had our new team Greenwood Kites Malcolm, Maz and Angie playing Harpenden Eagles Deidre, Denise and Brian. Kites took the first end for a double. Eagles then held a single and took the lead with a double. Kites pushed and drew level with a single on end four. Eagles gained height and took a triple and followed this with a single. Kites pulled straight back with a triple on end seven. Eagles went on the hunt again. They increased their lead with a single and then followed that with a triple and a double to be 13 – 6 up after ten ends. Kites came back with a single on end eleven, they continued with a second single, another triple and a further single to be only one shot behind at 12 – 13 with one end to play. Eagles pushed again and held the final end for a single and the win at 14 – 12.
Following our second week of play Northiam East have progressed to the top of the table. Next time East are on a rest week. With all three greenwood teams playing could one of them take that top spot. Come back next week to see how this competition evolves.
See you all next week.
Best Wishes from the Webmaster.👀
