Barnet League Week 19

27 Feb 2019

As the Barnet League approaches its final two weeks there were four matches played at Hatfield last night.

In Division 1, Greenwood Goshawks consolidated their hold at the top of the table by beating Harpenden Nightjars by 18 shots to 9. Although trailing by 4 shots to nil after 4 ends, Goshawks took two threes in succession to take the lead on end 6 which they maintained for the rest of the game. In the other  Division 1 match , third placed Letchworth Lions threw away their slim chance of  catching Goshawks by losing  to a decidedly on-form St Margaret's 1 team. The match started furiously with St Margaret's  taking  5 shots on end 3 and the Lions immediately replying with a maximum 6. From then on, however, St Margaret's took a firm grip of the game and steadily pulled away to win by 23 shots to 11.

There was a top of the table clash in Division 2 with the two Cuffley teams playing each other. Cuffley Gin comfortably beating their club-mates Cuffley Tonic. Gin took the lead on end 3 and didn't look back winning 19 - 11.  This win gives Cuffley Gin an unassailable 5 point lead at the top of the table. However the other places are still up for grabs, and Harpenden Owls improved their chances by beating Shillington White 19 - 6 and snatching second place with one game to play.
