Barnet League - Week 15

05 Feb 2020

This week there were two 1st and two 2nd division matches in the Barnet League.

Division 1

Letchworth Lions played St Margaret’s Rarebits. Rarebits started with a single and after four ends they were 7 – 1 up. Lions then started a comeback and by end nine they had pulled it back to 8 all. Rarebits fought back and by end eleven they were back on top with a small lead of 10 – 9. Lions then took a four and although Rarebits took a single, the Lions won the last two ends, to finally win their first game of the season 16 – 11. With a slightly better shot difference, this lifted them off the bottom of the table.

Cuffley Gin played Greenwood Peckers. Peckers started with a two then dropped the following two ends for a single each. Peckers then took a three and Gin immediately replied taking a 3 of their own, so at end five it was 5 all. The next four ends were also evenly matched, both teams taking two singles. At end nine it was level at 7 all. Again, the next four ends were shared between the teams, the score after end thirteen being 10 all. On end fourteen Gin took a single for a small lead. However, in a very closely matched game Peckers took three shots on the last end to win 13 – 11.

Division 2

Harpenden Nightjars played Shillington Red. The Reds took the first two ends to go 5 – 0 up. Nightjars then came straight back with a single and a four to make it 5 all after end four. Over the next four ends the Reds took three singles and the Nightjars took a three, so at end eight it was level again at 8 all. The Reds then pulled ahead with a three and although the Nightjars did take four more singles the Reds managed to stay in front taking a two and a single. The final score Reds 14, Nightjars 12.

Harpenden Owls played Shillington Black. The Owls took the first three ends and were pulling away at 6 – 0 up. The Blacks then started a comeback, and by end eight the scores were level at 7 all. The Blacks then took a four and this was really the defining moment of the match. The last six ends were very evenly matched with both teams taking three singles. The final score Blacks 14, Owls 10.

With Nightjars losing and Blacks winning, The Blacks have risen back to the top of the table.
