Saturday the 01^st of February saw Letchworth Bowls Club hold a race night to raise funds towards the purchase of some new mats. Letchworth Scout hut was transformed from its normal four mat bowling area to a well populated group of tables with a big screen. Six bowls clubs were represented, Letchworth (the hosts), Shillington, Greenwood, Harpenden, Cuffley and Northiam. Margaret, chief bookmaker along with her two assistant bookies Alana and Fiona managed to extract cash from all the willing punters. After eight exciting races on the screen, the night ended with a ‘Live’ race of six horses being raced across the hut’s floor. The six Jockeys were seconded from each of the above bowls clubs.  The race was not close!  Cuffley’s Jockey (The young pretender Olivia Spicer) romped away to win by at least five lengths. A successful night for both punters and the club, a total of £ 392.00 was raised. This should buy at least the first twenty feet of Letchworth's next new mat !!
