Barnet League Week Four

Hello to all you Barnet League bowlers and followers, It’s week four already and all is going well in both divisions.

 

Division 1

Letchworth Tigers played Greenwood Peckers. Tigers started by taking a double and a single to go three in front. Peckers came back strongly taking the next four ends for three doubles and a single to go 7 – 3 up after six ends. The next two ends went for a single shot each. Tigers then put on the pressure taking ends nine and ten for two shots each and levelling the match at eight all. In a close match the following two ends again went for a single shot each. End thirteen and Peckers took a single to go one shot in the lead with two ends to go. Tigers took the penultimate end for a single to level the score and then took the last end for a further single to win this tightly fought match 11 – 10.

Northiam East played Shillington Black. East started well taking the first two ends for a single each. Black came straight back taking the lead with a three followed by a five, putting them 8 – 2 up after four ends. The following two ends went for a single each. East then started to come back taking three ends for a single each and reducing Black’s lead to three shots. Blacks then came back taking a three to regain their six shot lead. East got going in the right direction and took a double. The last four ends all went Blacks way. Taking two more singles and two doubles Black’s won 18 – 8.

Division 2

Harpenden Robins played Greenwood Hawks. The first three ends all went Hawks way going 5 – 0 up. Robins then flapped their wings and took the next two ends for a single and a double. Hawks replied taking a three to regain their five shot lead. Robins then took a single, so at end seven Hawks had the lead at 8 – 4. The Hawks then consolidated their lead by taking the next three ends for a single each, increasing their lead to 11 – 4. Robins then flew in to take end eleven for a single. However, Hawks replied taking a double. Robins came straight back taking a double of their own. End fourteen saw Hawks take a triple to increase their lead to nine shots. Although Robins fought back taking the last end for a single, Hawks won the match with a score of 16 – 8.

ST Margaret’s Wizards played Greenwood Eagles. Eagles started well taking a four. They then followed this with three singles. Wizards replied by taking a single.  However, Eagles attacked taking a triple to go 10 – 1 up after six ends. Wizards now started a comeback, taking the next three ends for two singles and a four, reducing Eagles lead to 10 – 7. Not to be outdone, Eagles copied this, taking two singles and a four of their own to go 16 – 7 up. Wizards then repeated this sequence taking the last three ends, for yet another two singles and a further four. In a match where both teams scored two fours, Eagles had the win at 16 – 13.

 

At the end of week four Shillington Black are top of Division one, being the only team in the top division with a clean sheet. Division two is closer, with the top two teams not yet losing a match.

Next week sees Shillington White playing to retain their second place in division one. Division two sees both Tonic and Blackbirds playing. With it being so close, who will be top next week? Red’s are also playing and after last week’s good win, anything could happen. Watch this space!
