The sixth and last national qualifier competition was held on Saturday at Jimmy Mac’s (The Hive). This was the pairs competition with teams from Bush Hill Park, Cuffley, Greenwood, Northiam, Letchworth, St Margaret’s and Shillington. With fifteen pairs entered they were split into three groups of five players who all played each other in a round robin. Following the round robin the top two from each group went through to the quarter finals.
Quarter Finals
Brian McGivern and Alan Spicer played Darren Stanford and Mike Hargreaves
Dennis Mack and Jeff Branch played Alan Hare and Martin Nash
Darren Brown and Mark Spalding played Robin Quarterman and Jill Quarterman
After three closely fought matches the winners and the highest loser went through to the Semis.
Semi Finals.
Darren Stanford and Mike Hargreaves played Robin Quarterman and Jill Quarterman
Darren Brown and Mark Spalding played Alan Hare and Martin Nash.
Final.
The final was won by the pair from Letchworth and Cuffley of Alan hare and Martin Nash with the pair from Bush Hill Park of Darren Stanford and Mike Hargreaves taking second place.
The pair from Greenwood of Darren Brown and Mark Spalding took third place.
So these three pairs will go forward to the National Finals at Melton Mowbray in April.
Well done to all those that took part, with special thanks to our new Competition Secretary Martin Nash and our chief scorer for the day Alexis Mack.
