Division one

Cuffley Gin played Greenwood Peckers. Peckers started well with a four followed by two doubles and two singles to go 10 – 0 up after five ends. End six saw Gin temporarily come off the wagon for a quick single. Peckers came straight back taking three more singles and a double to be 15 – 1 up after ten ends. End eleven and Gin took a triple, this was their second end but unfortunately also their last. With Peckers holding the last four ends for a triple and three singles they had a comfortable win and a much improved shot difference at 21 – 4.

Letchworth Tigers played Northiam East. East got on the scorecard first taking a single and a double. Tigers, deciding it was now their year also took a single and a double to level at 3 all after four ends. At this point Tigers got stuck on the soup course allowing East to take two singles a double and a triple and a healthy lead of 10 – 3 after eight ends. Tigers now waiting for the next dish struck back taking a four and a two to reduce East’s lead to one shot. Ends eleven and twelve saw East take a single and a double to increase their lead to four shots. Tigers whilst waiting for the hot towels now took two singles. The last end however went East’s way for a single and the win at 14 – 11.

Division two

Greenwood Eagles played Harpenden Blackbirds. Blackbirds started well taking a triple. Eagles soared upwards taking their own triple. Blackbirds now flew in to take a double. With the Eagles instantly replying with another double it was five all after four ends. Eagles hovered about taking two singles then Blackbirds swooped in for a double and it was all level again at seven all after seven ends. Eagles attacked taking a single followed by a four and a further single to take a six shot lead. Ends eleven and twelve went for a single apiece. The last three ends saw Blackbirds reduce the deficit taking a single, this was followed by a dead end and then a further double. Eagles held on and gained the win at 14 – 11.

Harpenden Robins played St Margaret’s Wizards. Wizards started the magic off with a six, Robins flew in for a single. The following two ends now went for a single apiece. Wizards now got busy taking a four, two doubles and two singles and a 17 – 2 lead after nine ends. The next two ends went for a single each so it was 18 – 3 after eleven ends. Wizards wand now failed and Robins got some worms and took two fours to reduce Wizards lead to 18 – 11 with two ends to play. The last two ends saw the magic return, taking two doubles Wizards had a healthy win of 22 – 11

Shillington Red played Greenwood Hawks. Hawks started well taking two doubles, Red nipped in for a single, with Hawks replying with a single and a further double they had a 7 – 1 lead after five ends. Hawks hunkered down giving Red the chance to take two singles and two doubles and level the match at seven all after nine ends. End ten was a dead end so it was still all square. Ends eleven and twelve now saw each of our teams score a single. Still all square. Ends thirteen and fourteen and each team now scored a double. Going into the last end with the scores level at ten each there was all to play for. The last end saw Hawks triumph taking a triple and the win at 13 – 10.

Next week sees three matches in the first division. With the top four playing each other the top of division one could change again.  The top two in the second division are resting next week, with the mid table teams battling it out for the lower places.
