Barnet League week 20

22 Mar 2022

This the penultimate week saw two matches in Division one played and two matches in division two played with one awarded 15 - 0

Northiam East played St Margaret’s Rarebits. East got started by directing the first end towards a double. Rarebits then changed the direction by taking a triple followed by a double to have a 5 - 1 lead after three ends. Both teams then took a single before Rarebits took a further double to have a 8 - 3 lead after six ends. East now got their compass sorted out taking four doubles and they followed this with a single.  Then the music started, taking a five and it was ‘East 17’, ‘Staying Another Day’, ‘Rarebits 8’. East followed this with a triple. Rarebits moved magnetic north and came in for a single. East ended the match by restoring true north and taking a double to win 22 - 9.

Shillington Black played Letchworth Tigers. Tigers started off with a small growl and took a double and a single before Black got going with two singles. Tigers roared a bit more taking two singles followed by a double and a further single to be 8 - 2 up after eight ends. Shillington threw some ‘Stones’ and ‘Painted it Black’ with a single and a double to reduce Tigers lead to three after ten ends. Letchworth got their ‘Tiger Feet’ out of the ‘Mud’ and scored two doubles to go 12 - 5 up with three ends to play. As ‘Black Knight’ turned ‘Deep Purple’ they rallied taking two singles and a triple. With a score of 12 - 10 those Tigers were burning bright.

The top of Division one remains tight. Shillington Black are holding on at the top but could be beaten by Letchworth Tigers and Northiam East if they both win both of their remaining games. Watch this space next week when the final results should be known.

 Division two

St Margaret’s Wizards played Harpenden Blackbirds. Wizards started by conjuring up a double. Blackbirds spoke and ‘Broke the Morning’ by taking a single. Wizards waved the wand and found another double. Blackbirds then found a further single. Wizards now ‘Wished It Could Be Christmas’ and found the best single so far. They followed this with a number two and then a number three to be 10 - 2 up after seven ends. The following two ends saw both teams take a single. Wizards now climbed the charts by having three further singles and were 14 - 3 up with three ends to play. Blackbirds, being stuck on 3(degrees) said to the jack ‘When Will We See You Again’. Wizards then went out of tune and with ‘Blackbird Singing In The Dead Of Night’ they scored a triple followed by a double and a single. However Wizards topped the charts winning 14 - 9.

Greenwood Hawks played Cuffley Tonic. ‘Hawk’ got some ‘Wind’ in their sails, and the ‘Silver Machine’ got running taking four singles, a double and two triples to be 12 - 0 up after seven ends. Tonic now ‘Made their Mind Up’ after having lost all their ‘Bucks Fizz’ of the previous weeks by scoring a single.  The following two ends went for a single each so, after ten ends Hawks had the lead at 13 - 2. Hawks, now ‘Born To Go’ they took two further singles and had a thirteen shot lead with three ends to play. Ends thirteen and fourteen saw each team take a double with Hawks maintaining their thirteen shot lead. Tonic found a few bubbles for the last end taking a single but Hawks had the win at 17 - 5, being the only team to turn Tonic flat this season.

Division two has now reached its conclusion. Congratulations to Cuffley Tonic and Greenwood Hawks who will be playing in the first division next year.
