Barnet League Week Nineteen

15 Mar 2022

Barnet League week nineteen with one first division match and two second division matches being played.

Division one

Greenwood Peckers played Cuffley Gin. Peckers started well taking the first end for a double. Gin replied by downing a single. With Peckers replying with a further double, they were 4 – 1 up after three ends. End four and Gin went for a large triple and levelled the score at four all after four ends. They followed this with a single. Peckers now got their heads down and pecked their own triple to restore their lead to 7 – 5 after six ends. End seven saw Gin order up a further triple and go back in the lead but Peckers continued to peck away, taking three doubles in a row, resulting in a 13 – 8 lead after ten ends. Gin now ordered up two more singles to reduce Peckers lead. Peckers got their heads down again, taking a single followed by a triple and a 17 – 10 lead with one end to play. The last end saw Gin finish with their first double of the evening. However, Peckers had the win at 17 – 12.

Division two

Greenwood Hawks played Shillington Red. Red got on the score card first with a double. Hawks reply was to start with a single. Red came straight back taking another double, followed by two singles to have a 6 – 1 lead after five ends. Red was now preyed upon by Hawks, with them taking two doubles followed by a single to level the match at six all after eight ends. Feeling good Hawks came in for a further single. Seeing red, Reds’ reply was to take a triple and restore their lead at 9 – 7 after ten ends. Hawks then swooped in to take two more singles and level the match at nine all with three ends to play. Red looked under the bed and found a single but, with Hawks instantly replying with yet another single, it was all square again at 10 all with one end to play. The last end and Red held on taking it for a single and the win at 11 – 10.

Harpenden Robins played Greenwood Eagles. Robins got the early start by taking a double. Eagles then got in the air by taking a single. Robins scraped about and found a single, Eagles gained height, took a double and they were all at level flight with 3 each after four ends. Robins now pulled on a real juicy worm and found a five for a tasty lead. Eagles hovered above taking two singles but Robins mopped up their meal by taking a further single themselves. Eagles then gained height by taking a four and getting back level with Robins at 9 all after nine ends. However, Robins restored their four shot lead by taking two doubles. Eagles now gained some height on the Robins by taking a double. End thirteen and Robins held off Eagles to take a single and a three shot lead. The penultimate end and Eagles with ruffled feathers came back for a three, to level the match at 14 all. The last end and Robins gained even more height on Eagles, taking a four and the win at 18 – 14.

The first division is still as open as it was last week. With two matches in each division scheduled next week we may be a bit nearer to knowing the final result.
