The Barnet League Returns

Hello to all you players and followers of the Barnet League, played on Tuesday nights at Hatfield. This Tuesday (27th September) saw the commencement of the new season of this our counties prestigious triples league. This season we have lost some teams and gained others; we welcome Bush Hill Park who have entered a new team this year.

 Division 1:-

Letchworth Tigers played last seasons Division one winners Shillington Black. Black took the first end for a double and followed it with a further double to go 4 – 0 up. End three saw Tigers get started by taking their own double to bring it back to a Black lead of 4 – 2. Black now applied some pressure and took the following seven ends to hold a healthy lead of 18 – 2 after ten ends. End eleven saw Tigers hold on for three shots, however Black instantly replied taking a single on end twelve. Ends thirteen and fourteen saw Tigers take a single and a double to reduce their deficit. Black took the last end for a single giving them a good win of 20 – 8, reminding all those first Division teams that they are the current holders.

Shillington White played Greenwood Hawks. Hawks got on the scoresheet first, taking the first end for a single, White replied taking a double and a small lead on the second end. Hawks then started a run of six ends taking singles and doubles to go 10 – 2 up after eight ends. White then started a come back taking two doubles to reduce Hawks lead to 10 – 6 after ten ends. Hawks then took a single. With White then taking two more singles they had reduced Hawks lead to 11 – 8 with two ends to play. Hawks reply was to take the last two ends for a double and a triple to take the win at 16 – 8.

Division 2:-

Shillington Red played Letchworth Pumas. Red took the first end for a single. Pumas replied with a double, taking a one shot lead. Red now took the following six ends for four singles a double and a triple to take a healthy lead of 10 – 2 after eight ends. Pumas took end nine for a double. Red replied with a single, Pumas came straight back for a triple and had reduced Red’s lead to 11 – 7 after eleven ends. Red’s reply was to take a single followed by a double to go 14 – 7 up after thirteen ends. The penultimate end saw Pumas take a double. They followed this with a single on the last end, however Red’s had the win at 14 – 10.

 Letchworth Lions played St Margaret’s Wizards. Wizards started with double and a single. Lions replied taking a triple making it three all after three ends. Wizards then took a single and a double for a three shot lead. Lions now came back with two doubles followed by a single, taking the lead at 8 – 6 after eight ends. Wizards started a comeback taking a single and two doubles, regaining the lead at 11 – 8 after eleven ends. End twelve saw Lions take a single. Wizards strengthened their position taking a single and a double to go 14 – 9 up with one end to play. The last end went Lions way taking a double, however Wizards had the win at 14 – 11.  

Next week sees our remaining four teams get their chance to get on the scoreboard.
