Barnet League Week three

Week three at Hatfield and the competition continues.

Division One

Shillington Whites team of Paul, Julia and Trevor played Northiam East’s Rosa, Jan and Jeff. East started well taking a single followed by a double and then a triple. End four saw them take a single (not a four) to put them 8 – 0 up after four ends. White then started a comeback, Taking three singles followed by a triple they reduced East’s lead to 8 – 6 after nine ends. East held end ten for a single. White came straight back taking their own single, keeping within two shots. End twelve saw East hold on for a four and stretched their lead to 13 – 7 with three ends to play. White then held a single and they followed that with a triple, to put them two shots behind with one end to play. The last end was closely fought with White holding on for another single, just giving East the win at 13 – 12.

Greenwood Hawks team of Barry, Dennis and Brian McGivern played their stablemates Greenwood Peckers, whose team members were Audrey, Mark and Darren. Hawks took the first end for a single. Peckers replied taking a double, only to see Hawks getting their own double on end three to go back in the lead. Peckers then started a short run, taking a single and a triple followed by a double to go 8 – 3 up after six ends. Hawks then took a single. Ends eight and nine went for a double apiece, followed by ends ten and eleven going for a single apiece. Going in to end twelve with a five shot lead, Peckers then extended their lead by taking a triple. The penultimate end saw hawks taking a four to reduce Peckers lead to four shots. Peckers held on to the last end for a single and retaining their five shot lead, won the game 16 – 11.

Division two

Letchworth Lions team of Alan Spicer, Sue and Ivor played Harpenden Eagle’s Brian, Geoff and Denise. Lions took the first end for a double. Eagles replied taking a triple. However, with Lions then taking a single, it was all square after three ends at 3 all. Lions then took a double. Eagles reply was to take a single. End six saw Lions come straight back taking a four and increasing their lead to 9 – 4. Eagles then started a comeback taking a double and two singles, reducing Lions lead to 9 – 8 after nine ends. Lions held ends ten and eleven for singles, which Eagles matched by taking end twelve for a double. Lions replied on end thirteen taking a triple and a four shot lead with two ends to play. Eagles held the penultimate end for a single but with Lions replying by taking the last end for a double, they had the win at 16 – 11.

Letchworth Pumas team of Andrew, Alan Hare and Alexis played Bush Hill Blues Jack, Terri and Darren. Pumas started with a single, which was followed by Blues taking a double. With Pumas taking two singles followed by Blues taking their own single, it was 3 all after five ends. Pumas then took a further single and they followed this with a four. Blues came back for a single but with Pumas then taking a triple and a single they had a 12 – 4 lead after ten ends. Blues then reduced Pumas lead by taking a double on end eleven. Pumas then got on a run for the last four ends, taking two singles a double and a triple to win the game 19 – 6.

 

With all twelve teams having now played two matches only three have clean sheets. They are Greenwood Peckers and Northiam East in Division one and Shillington Red in Division two. With Peckers playing East next week and Red having a game in Division two, let’s see what happens next.
