Barnet League week 19

The Barnet League continued this week with two games in each division.

Division One

Greenwood Hawks team of Barry, Brian Mc and Dennis played their club mates Greenwood Peckers team of Colin, Mark and Darren. Peckers started by taking two singles, Hawks replied on end three with a double. End four saw Peckers regain the lead with a four to be 6 – 2 up. Hawks then started a short run, taking a double and two singles it was all square again at six all after seven ends. Peckers held end eight for a single. Hawks then took the lead with a double to go 8 – 7 up. Their lead was short lived as Peckers went straight back in the lead with a four. Hawks held end eleven for a single only to see Peckers hold their third four and a 15 – 9 lead with three ends to play. Hawks then took a double but with Peckers holding the penultimate end for their fourth four they had a 19 – 11 lead going into the last end. Hawks fought back on the last end and held their own four to reduce Peckers win to 19 – 15.

Shillington Whites team of Trevor, Paul and Julia played Northiam Easts team of Jeff, Martin and Jan. East started this game by taking a double, following this with a further double and a four they were 8 – 0 up after three ends. Continuing their domination they took a further double and a triple to be 13 – 0 up after five ends. With three bowls sitting on the jack end six was declared a tied end. East continued the onslaught taking a double to be 15 – 0 up after eight ends. White then started to fight back, taking a single and a double they now had some points on the card. East held end ten for a double and White came back for a single. End twelve saw East take a four and the writing was on the wall for Whites as the lead had now stretched to 21 – 4. End thirteen saw White take their final single. With East holding a double and a single they had a dominating win at 24 – 5.

 Division Two

 Letchworth Pumas team of Mike, Andrew and Alan played Bush Hill Blues Terri, Roger and Darren. Blues got this game started by taking the first end for a single. Pumas then got on the card with a double followed by a single. Taking a double on the fourth end Blues had made it all square at three all. Pumas then doubled their score taking a triple on end five. Blues fought back taking a single and a double and it was all square again at six all after seven ends. Pumas then started a short run taking two singles and a double they had a four shot lead on end ten. Blues then halved their deficit taking a double on end eleven. Pumas came straight back taking a double of their own and following it with a single they had a five shot lead with two ends to play. The penultimate end saw Blues take another double to be within three shots of Pumas. The last end played out and Pumas reinforced their position taking a triple to win 16 – 10.

Letchworth Lions team of Judith, Alan and Ivor played Harpenden Eagles Diana, Geoff and Gordon. Lions started well with a double, then they roared ahead taking a five on the second end. Following this with three singles they were 10 – 0 up after five ends. Eagles swooped in and held end six for a double. Lions replied by taking a double and a single. Eagles got on the wing again and took a triple followed by a single to reduce Lions lead to 13 – 6 after ten ends. Lions then got their claws out and roared, taking two singles, two doubles and a triple they took the win at 22 – 6.

 

Peckers win keeps them in top spot in division one, A high scoring win for East has improved their shot difference and moved them into second spot above Hawks. Its still wide open at the top of this division. With White, Black and Tigers playing next week the battle in the relegation zone will continue.  The second division sees the battle for second spot continue with both Letchworth teams taking a win this week. It could all change next week as Pumas and Lions get a further outing.
