Barnet League Week Four

24 Oct 2023

Week four of the Barnet League.

Division One

Greenwood Peckers team of Audrey, Brian and Mark played their club mates Greenwood Hawks team of Barry, Val and Darren. Peckers started this game by taking two triples. Hawks got started on end three by taking a single. Peckers replied by taking a third triple to go 9 – 1 up after four ends. Hawks took end five for a triple of their own and followed this with a double to reduce Peckers lead to 9 – 6 after six ends. Peckers reply was to take a double followed by a four. End nine saw Hawks hold a single only to see Peckers take a five followed by a double and a single to increase their lead to 23 – 7 with three ends to play. Hawks held a single and a double but with Peckers taking the last end for a final single they had a good win at 24 – 10.

Division Two

Northiam West’s Margaret, Brian and Jeff played Cuffley Gin’s Derek, Paul and Ann. West started with a triple followed by a single and then a further triple. Gin held end four for a single. In a very tough match for newcomers Cuffley Gin, West then held the remaining eleven ends. We wont worry too much about the individual scores but suffice it to say West ended up with a very useful shot difference winning 37 – 1.

Harpenden Eagles Denise, Val and Gorden played Letchworth Tigers Judith, Sue and Margaret. Eagles got this game going with a single and followed it with a mighty five. Tigers took end three for a double and followed this with a single. Eagles came back on end five for a single and a 7 – 3 lead. Tigers now started a short run, taking a double then going into the lead with a triple followed by a single and a further double they were 11 – 7 in front after nine ends. Eagles held ends ten and eleven for singles. Tigers restored their four shot lead by taking ends twelve and thirteen for singles. The penultimate end saw Eagles hold a double to reduce Tigers lead to 13 – 11. The last end went Tigers way for a single giving them the win at 14 – 11.

With all teams now having played two games the tables are starting to take shape. Northiam East head the first division being the only team to have won both games. St Margaret’s Mercury and Letchworth Tigers top division two, also having won both their games. Next week sees both Greenwood teams in action again, playing the two teams above them. This table could well change again next week. Division two sees Gin playing again, this time against Eagles. Watch this space next week for the results.
