County / National triples at Stevenage.
Sunday the 22nd of October saw twelve teams enter the triples competition. With teams split into three groups of four teams all six mats were in use for the morning session. With the top two teams from each group along with the top two from the remaining six we had our eight quarter finalists. The remaining four teams were entered into the semi finals of the plate competition. The plate competition saw the triple of Bev Stevenson, Mike Eccleston and Margaret Eccleston beat Darren Stanford, Terri Watkinson and Roger Watkinson.
Quarter final one saw Alan Hare, Andrew Miles and Margaret Hare beat Trevor Tharby, Ken Murray and Denise Moores. Quarter final two had Brian McGivern, Alan Spicer and Martin Nash win over the triple of Paul Bruce, Michelle Conlon and Trevor Knight. The third Quarter final saw Mark Spalding, Neil Rixon and Barry Thorogood beat Brian Fowler, Audrey Fowler and Bill Durham. Our last Quarter final saw Bill Gearing, Toni Gearing and Julia Bruce win over Jeff Branch, Jan Rogers and Jeanette Gayler.
Our Semi finals were now set up. In two good matches Brian McGivern’s triple went through beating Alan Hare’s three. Mark Spalding’s triple went on to beat Bill Gearing’s triple and our final and third place matches took place.
Our eventual winners were the team of Mark Spalding, Neil Rixon and Barry Thorogood who beat Brian McGivern, Alan Spicer and Martin Nash who took second place. The third place match saw the team of Bill Gearing, Toni Gearing and Julia Bruce take third spot narrowly beating Alan Hare, Andrew Miles and Margaret Hare into fourth spot.
Our next County/National competition will be the Fours on November the 12th once again to be held at our Stevenage venue which is proving to be a good home for Hertfordshire.
