County / National fours at Stevenage.
Sunday the 12th November saw seven teams enter the fours competition. The morning started with one group of three teams and one group of four. The top two teams from each group going through to the semi-finals. Semi-final one had the team of Audrey Fowler, Brian Fowler, Mark Spalding and Darren Brown win against the team of Jan Rogers, Jeff Branch, Jeanette Gayler and Malcolm Warwick. Semi-final two and the team of Bill Gearing, Toni Gearing, Julia Bruce and Neil Rixon won against the team of Tony Gayler, Roger Watkinson, Terri Watkinson and Darren Stanford. We were now ready for our final and third place decider.
The third place was won by the team skipped by Darren Stanford beating the team skipped by Jeff Branch into fourth place.
Our Final was between the team skipped by Neil Rixon and the team skipped by Darren Brown. In an exciting final played over seven ends it was seven all with two ends to play. End six and Darren’s team held a four to take the lead. The final end saw Neil’s team holding four shots for the draw with one bowl to come. Neil’s last bowl gently rolled towards the Jack and held fifth spot to give his team the win at 12 – 11 making them this year’s County Fours Champions.
Next week (Sunday the 19th) sees us all at Stevenage again for the Over 55’s pairs competition with more places at the grand final in Solihull up for grabs.
