Barnet League Week nine

With a return to the Barnet league this week we have three more games to report. Two in the first division and one in the second.

Division one

Northiam East’s Mike, Martin and Jan played Letchworth Pumas Andrew, Alan S. and Alan H. East got the bowls running taking a single on the first end. Pumas strongly took the lead with a four on end two. East then got a run going, matching Pumas four and then taking a second four they followed this with three singles to have a healthy 12 – 4 lead after seven ends. Pumas then got back on the attack taking two doubles to reduce East’s lead to four shots. East came back for a single which Pumas matched on end eleven. Pumas then reduced the deficit taking a second single, they followed this with their second four of the match to take the lead at 14 – 13 with two ends to play. East now dug in and held the penultimate end for a magnificent five, following this with a final single they had the win at 19 – 14.

Shillington Black’s Bill, Paul and Julia played Greenwood Peckers Audrey, Brian and Mark. Peckers started well by taking a four and they followed this with a double. Black got on the card with a single on end three only to see Peckers take a double on end four for an 8 – 1 lead.  Black then held a further single on end five but with Peckers holding a second four on end six they were pulling out a lead of 12 – 2. Peckers then held two further singles before Black got in for their third single of the game. End ten had Peckers match this single, they then took their third four and increased their lead to 19 – 3. Black started a short comeback by taking the following two ends for doubles. Finishing this game with a fourth four followed by a triple Peckers had a substantial win at 26 – 7.

Division two

Letchworth Tigers Sue, David and Margaret played Cuffley Gin’s Christine, Jan and Charlie. Gin held the first end for a single. Tigers matched this on end two and followed it with a spectacular ‘Hotshot’ six on end three. Gin then held two more singles to bring the score back to 3 – 7. Tigers held end six for a single, Gin then took three ends for singles and reduced Tigers lead to 8 – 6 after nine ends. At this point Tigers applied some pressure, taking three singles and a double and finishing with two triples they had the win at 19 – 6.

Greenwood Peckers win in the first division establishes them as Division leaders, Northiam East have now moved into second spot.  With Greenwood Hawks playing next week will we be going into the Christmas break with two Greenwood teams at the top? Tigers win moves them to the top of Division two, with both St Margaret’s Mercury and Northiam West playing next week will their top spot be short lived?

We will also have the first Semi-Final of the Barnet League cup between Northiam East and Greenwood Peckers being played on mat four.

Watch this space next week for reports on all four games.
