Hello to all our Barnet League players and followers, this week we had four scheduled games and one catchup game. This just leaves three games to be played next week before we commence round two where we will be split into two divisions.
Our catchup game was played on mat one between Shillington Red’s Trevor, Michelle & Neil and Northiam South’s Dennis, Jeff and Brian. Red’s got started with a single and followed that with two more. End four saw South get started with a double but Red’s came straight back and held a triple for a 6 – 2 lead after five ends. South then started a run, they took two singles then took the lead with a four and followed that with a double for a 10 – 6 lead after nine ends. Red’s pushed on end ten and held a single but South came back for two doubles and had increased their lead to 14 – 7 with three end to play. Red’s held another single which South matched on the penultimate end. Red’s held the last end for another single but South had the win at 15 – 9.
Mat two and Fairfield Falcons Bev, Gill H and Neil were playing Harpenden Owls Valerie, Jean and Gordon. Falcons started with a single and followed on with two triples, a double and a second single for a 10 – 0 lead after five ends. Owls swooped in for a double but Falcons came straight back for a third triple and a double to increase their lead to 15 – 2 after eight ends. Owls took a single followed by Falcons holding a double. Owls then attacked, they started with a single then held two triples to reduce Falcons lead to 17 – 10. The last two ends and Falcons pushed again, holding a single and finishing with a triple they had a good win at 21 – 10.
Mat three had Northiam East’s Mike, Jan and Martin playing St Margaret’s Brian, Darren and Steven. St Margaret’s started this game with a single. East came straight back for a double and a single. St Margaret’s held a second single on end four but East got going and held two doubles followed by a four for an 11 – 2 lead after seven ends. St Margaret’s held another single to which East replied by holding another double. St Margaret’s then started a short run of two singles and a double to reduce East’s lead to 13 - 7. East moved ahead with a single on end thirteen. St Margaret’s held the last two ends for a single and a double but East had the win at 14 – 10.
Mat four and Potters Bar Kestrels Frank, Pam and Steve were playing Shillington Black’s Paul, Tony and Julia. Black started with a single and followed that with a triple. Kestrels held a single on end three but Blacks reply on end four was to hold a five for a 9 – 1 lead. They followed this with a double and a second five to increase their lead to 16 – 1 after six ends. Kestrels came back and held a double but Blacks matched this on end eight. Kestrels attached again and this time held a four to reduce Blacks lead to 18 – 7 after nine ends. Blacks pushed again and held their third five on end ten. The following two ends saw each team hold a double. End thirteen and Blacks held a four, Kestrels came back for a double on end fourteen. Blacks held onto the last end for a single and the win at 30 – 11.
Mat five had Greenwood Peckers Audrey, Sue and Brian playing Harpenden Eagles Denise, Sue and Brian. Peckers started with a single which Eagles matched. Peckers then took a double followed by two fours and a five for a 16 – 1 lead after six ends. Eagles swooped in for a second single but Peckers pushed again and took a third four followed by a double and a single before Eagles could get back in and hold a double on end eleven. With the following two ends going for a single apiece Peckers were maintaining their lead. Eagles attacked the penultimate end and held a four. Peckers held onto the last end for a final single and the win at 25 – 9.
This penultimate week of the first stage has now confirmed which teams will be in the first division and which will be in the second. The top six teams in the current table will become division one and the remaining teams will become division two. Next week’s three games will decide the final order and the scores will affect the next round of the competition as teams will carry forward the scores against all other teams in their division.
