Barnet League Week Seventeen

03 Feb 2026

This week we had the last three games of stage one of the Barnet League.

Mat one had Northiam East’s Mike, Jan and Martin playing Letchworth Lions David, Mick and Alan H. East took the first end for a four, Lions came straight back and levelled it with a four of their own. They then took the lead with a double. East came back for a single then levelled it with a second. They followed this with a second four for a 10 – 6 lead after six ends. Lions pushed again and held a triple then took the lead back with a double. East instantly took the lead back with a double of their own and followed that with a single for a 13 – 11 lead after ten ends. Lions pulled back with a single, the following end was declared a tied end. Lions then held a further single on end thirteen and it was all square at thirteen all. East regained the lead with a double on the penultimate end. The last end saw Lions hold another double making the final score a draw at fifteen all.

Mat two had Greenwood Hawks Barry, Val and Darren playing Harpenden Eagles Deidre, Denise and Brian. Hawks started with a single and followed that with a double on end two. Eagles held a single which Hawks matched on end four. Eagles came closer with a double but Hawks then started a run of ends, beginning with a triple and continuing with four singles two more triples and a four they had pulled out a lead of 21 – 3 after thirteen ends. End fourteen and Eagles took a final single which Hawks matched on the last end to take the win at 22 – 4.

Mat three and Greenwood Peckers Penny, Sue and Brian were playing Fairfield Falcons Bev, Gill A and Neil. Falcons took first blood with a single which Peckers matched on end two. Fairfield then took a triple followed by another single for a 5 – 1 lead after four ends. Peckers then held a triple but Falcons kept in front by taking their third single. Peckers then took the lead for the first time with a triple, they followed this with two singles, a four and a further single for a 14 – 6 lead after eleven ends. End twelve and Falcons held another single but Peckers attacked again, taking the last three ends for a triple, double and a four they had the win at 23 – 7.

We have now come to the end of stage one. Northiam East and Letchworth Lions draw drop Shillington Black down to sixth although going forward they still take that last place in the first division. Greenwood Peckers win sees them move up to second place just below their club mates Greenwood Hawks.

We now have a one week break, then it’s all back to Hatfield for stage two where each team gets to play the other teams in their division for a second time. The stage two fixtures along with the new results tables are now available on this website. As you can see only the results of games against those teams in each division have been carried forward. The new tables show that Greenwood Peckers second place was short lived as they have slipped back to third in division one behind Northiam South on shot difference. Letchworth Lions have also dropped one spot below Northiam East. The only change in the second division sees Potters Bar Kestrels rise one spot to fifth.

Don’t forget there are no games or rollups next week, so see you all again in two weeks time to see how this exciting competition develops.

Best Wishes from the Webmaster.👀
