County Rankings Champion 2025/26 Season

17 Apr 2026

Mark Spalding is the Rankings Champion for Season 2025/26

After a very exciting season which saw the lead change hands on several occasions, especially on the final four days of the Nationals where there were three different leaders on the morning of each day. Mark took the lead on the final day and will be crowned Champion at the County AGM, just overhauling Darren Brown, last season’s top dog. Just one win separated them!

The competition has been running now for five years and there has been a different winner each year. This shows the strength of depth of the County and, should this system continue next year, it would not be surprising to see another name at the end of the season.

Just as a recap to how this works, points are awarded for each County game you are selected for and then again for winning or drawing your games. This includes the Double Rinks competition held in March. Points are also awarded in all six County Competitions that make up the representations at the Nationals. Finally, points are awarded at the Nationals themselves. Getting to the last 16 or better will also gain points. Local competitions such as the Barnet League, the Beds & Herts League, the Fairfield Xmas Triples etc. are not included. The idea is to promote Hertfordshire’s Short Mat profile within the Country and to give recognition to Hertfordshire players. Well done to all 46 players who gained points this season.
