Barnet League - Week 13

21 Jan 2020

This week there were two 1st and three 2nd division matches in the Barnet League.   We have caught up one more game and another catch up game is being played next week, so only one mat will be available for rollups.

Division 1

Letchworth Dragons played Cuffley Gin. Gin started well taking the first six ends and were 8 – 0 up. Dragons then took a couple of ends but Gin came straight back with a five. Although Dragons took four more ends, they did not manage to catch up, Gin winning 18 – 11.

Greenwood Peckers played Letchworth Lions. The Lions took the first two ends. Peckers then took a single.  However, Lions fought straight back taking two singles. At six ends Lions were 6 – 4 up. In a close match, Peckers slowly pulled it back and at fourteen ends were 13 – 9 up. Lions took a two on the last end but Peckers managed to stay in front, winning 13 – 11

Division 2

St Margaret’s Wizards played Shillington Red. Reds took the first end, then Wizards took the next three. At four ends Wizards were ahead 6 – 1. Reds then started a comeback and at eight ends it was 8 all. It was an exciting match and at end ten it was 9 all. In the following five ends, Reds took three 2’s with Wizards taking a 2 and a 1. Reds winning 15 – 12. Well done to Reds for their first win of the season.

Harpenden Nightjars played Harpenden Owls. The first four ends were evenly matched two ends each, with a score of 3 all after four ends. Owls then took a five to go 8 – 3 up. Although Nightjars took the following two ends, Owls then took the next four and at end eleven, Owls had drawn ahead 14 - 6. Nightjars then took the next two ends for 3 each and the following for a four. Although Owls managed to take the last end for a single, with their exciting comeback, Nightjars won 16 – 15.

Shillington White played Letchworth Tigers in a match postponed from the very beginning of the season. Tigers took the first end with a single but Whites fought straight back with a 3. Tigers then came back with a two and a three. The teams were evenly matched at this point and at end ten it was 8 all. Whites then took a single followed by a six. This gave Whites a 15 – 8 lead. Although Tigers took the last three ends, they could not recover the damage caused by the six. Whites winning 15 – 12. An exciting game, where Tigers shy and retiring skip, was unusually quiet! Watch this space, as next week Tigers play Whites again in the first match of the second half of the season, where no doubt revenge will be sought!
