Barnet League week 10

Hello to all you Barnet League followers. Its 2022 and the Barnet League has progressed to week ten. As the last week of 2021 was abandoned there is now a revised list of fixtures available on the website. This week saw one Division one match and Two Division two matches.

Division one

Cuffley Gin played Shillington White. White got on the scoreboard first taking a single and followed this with a double. Gin then got started and took a double to narrow Whites lead. Whites replied with a triple and increased their lead to 6 – 2 after four ends. Gin now took control taking three singles followed by a double. This gave them the lead at 7 – 6 after eight ends. Whites came back for a double and regained the lead. They followed this with a further double to take a three shot lead after ten ends. Gin then sneaked in for a single. Whites took yet another double to go four shots in front making the score 12 – 8 after twelve ends. End thirteen and Gin stormed in taking a four, levelling the score at 12 all. End fourteen and Whites took a narrow lead with a single. The last end saw the lead change with each bowl. With the skips having one bowl each left, Gin had the two shots they needed for the win. White’s skip used his last bowl to nudge their bowl in to hold one shot. Gin’s last bowl rolled down the mat, got the double wick it was looking for and held a single shot leaving the end result as a draw at 13 all.

Next week we have one first division match between St Margaret’s Rarebits and Greenwood Peckers..

Division two

Shillington Red player Cuffley Tonic. Tonic took the first end for a double with Reds immediately replying with a triple to gain the lead. Tonic then took two singles with Reds coming straight back taking a four and regaining the lead at 7 – 4 after five ends. Tonic now took command of the mat taking a double, two singles and a triple to go 11 – 7 up after nine ends. Reds then took a double to reduce Tonic’s lead to two shots. However, Tonic increased their lead by taking a triple and a single, before Reds got in to take their last single of the match. Taking a further triple and a single Tonic had the win at 19 – 10.

Greenwood Eagles played Harpenden Robins. Robins started this match by taking a four and followed this with two singles and two doubles to go 10 – 0 up after five ends in a match that they dominated. End six saw Eagles get on the scorecard with a double. However, Robins were relentless, taking another double, a four and two singles to go 18 – 2 up after ten ends. Eagles gained a single on end eleven. Robins replied with yet another double and a four to go 23 – 3 up with two ends to play. The last two ends went for a single apiece. With a score of 25 – 4 Robins had a resounding win and a much improved shot difference.

Next week sees Cuffley Tonic playing Greenwood Eagles. Can Tonic maintain their unbeaten run or will The Eagles turn the table on them and be the first to beat them? With Hawks and Blackbirds playing each other second spot could be up for grabs.
