Mixed Fours National Qualifiers.

Hertfordshire’s county mixed fours competition was held on Sunday the 23^rd October at Elm Court. With only six entries this year, we are not sure how many qualifying places will be awarded to Hertfordshire, for the Nationals held in February 2023. The competition was run as a round robin with all teams playing five games. 

The first round saw the team of Jeff Branch, Jan Rogers, Martin Nash and Jeanette Gayler start well beating the team of Alan Hare, Margaret Hare, Beverly Stevenson and Dennis Mack 13 – 3. The team of Brian Fowler, Audrey Fowler, Val Thorogood and Barry Thorogood won against the team of Michelle Conlon, Trevor Knight, Sue Murrell and Andrew Miles 10 – 4. With the team of Darren Stanford, Terri Watkinson, Gerri Bignell and Roger Watkinson winning 8 – 4 over the team of Pauline Taylor, Denise Moores, Alan Spicer and Brian McGivern the competition was under way.

As the following four rounds progressed, the team headed by Jeff Branch started to pull out a lead. By the end of the day they had four wins, only being beaten by the second placed team headed by Pauline Taylor. Pauline Taylor’s team took second place with three wins and a draw, closely followed by the Bush Hill Four headed by Darren Stanford who had three wins.
