02 Apr 2023

Hertfordshire excel at the Nationals.

In the Mixed fours at Solihull our team of Darren Stanford, Terri Watkinson, Gerri Bignell and Roger Watkinson got through the group stages but were narrowly knocked out in the next round by a team from Suffolk. In the fours at Melton Mowbray our team of Barry Thorogood, Alexis Mack, Darren Brown and Mark Spalding got through the knockout stages but lost out to Hampshire in the knockout round.

In the over 55’s pairs, Jeff Branch and Dennis Mack got through the knockout stage and then both knockout rounds. They then beat Essex in the quarter finals but unfortunately went out in the Semi Final  to the Northants pair of Chris Hopkins and Steve McAlister who then went on to win the final. At Melton Mowbray our pair of Mark Spalding and Darren Brown having got through the group stages then knocked out Essex in the first knockout round but lost out in a close match to Greater Manchester in the second knockout stage.

Glory goes to Neil Rixon of Shillington. Having topped his group, Neil beat Suffolk then Norfolk to reach the quarter finals. He then beat West Sussex earning a place in the semi finals where in a close match he beat West Midlands 8 – 7. In the final Neil took on the current world champion, Alex Kley of Dorset. In a good final which was live streamed on FaceBook Neil eventually lost out to Alex 4 – 11. Neil however has earned his place in Hertfordshire’s history becoming the first Hertfordshire player to make a National final. Congratulations to Neil from all of Hertfordshire’s members for this outstanding achievement.
