The final County Rankings for 2022-2023 Season

03 Apr 2023

DENNIS MACK IS HERTFORDSHIRE'S NUMBER ONE RANKED PLAYER FOR 2022/2023.

Dennis takes over the number one spot from Brian McGivern, last year's title holder, who drops to third. Jeff Branch moves up to the second spot, from fourth, but the biggest jump, following the Nationals at the end of March this year, was by Neil Rixon, who jumped up to fourth, only missing out the bronze medal position by a smidgeon. Neil was outstanding in the National Singles competition, not just going further than any player in the County before, but playing exceptionally well on a gruelling day, and showing with his skill and temperament, that it is possible to scale these heights by players from Hertfordshire. He won numerous plaudits from many non-Hertfordshire players and he will not be an 'unknown' next year.

Just to re-emphasise the ranking system and what it does and doesn't necessarily show. Ranking points are gained by doing well in the County competitions and by representing the County, both at the Nationals and in recognised County games. This, inevitably, will have a slight leaning to quantity over quality but no system is perfect and wins are what achieves the ranking points so absence, for whatever reason, can be made up with positive results.
