The Jill Quarterman Memorial Cup.
Sunday the 23rd of July saw twelve triples teams from across the county compete in the inaugural competition for The Jill Quarterman Memorial Cup. This charity event was held at our Elm Court venue in Potters Bar. All twelve teams played four rounds of eight end triples. The draw had been configured to ensure that all teams played each game on a different mat. Those tricky Elm Court mats ensured that it was a good close-run competition. The top two teams of Sylvia Ely, Jan Rogers & Val Penn and Jeff Branch, Dennis Mack & Alexis Mack competed in the final, also over eight ends. The team skipped by Alexis Mack won this final and became the first team to get their name on this new County Cup.
The Cup was presented by Robin Quarterman assisted by Jill’s daughter Roz. Along with the profit from entry fees, and raffle tickets being sold throughout the day we managed to raise £275.00. With this year’s nominated charity ‘Make-A-Wish Foundation’. As this is planned to be an annual event we can only expect it to go from strength to strength. At this point can Hertfordshire thank all those involved in the planning and smooth running of the day. With special mentions to Jeff Branch for running the event, Darren Stanford for being the much called upon nonplaying umpire, Margaret Hare for organising the raffle and for all those thirty-six bowlers without whom the competition would not have happened. Lastly but most importantly to Robin Quarterman for presenting the trophy.
